Kelly looks the better defender.. love Rafa running forward though.. Kelly can do it too..
Pretty even but I'd say if you want stability at the back you should choose Kelly.

Kelly is solid, Rafael could very easily get sent off within the first minute of a match starting.

Well in fairness, no one else gave any proper reasons as to why Kelly was better (Including myself). Can't really have a go at him for not giving reasons either.

Rafael has proven in big games that he is a good player who is also very dangerous going forward. He has played in games against some of the biggest names in world football such as Ronaldinho who was kept quiet during a game at his home stadium, he also kept Ribery at old trafford quiet until he was incorrectly sent off (it doesn't matter).
Another thing you could use to suggest that Rafael is better is the amount of premier league games they have played. Going off ESPNs stats (Not my problem if there wrong). Kelly has only started 10 premier league games for Liverpool in his entire career. In comparison Rafael has started 14 premier league games this season and has made a total 34 starts altogether which is quite a lot for a young player in a big team. You may say that Kelly is less inexperienced that Rafael however Kelly is in fact around 2 months older than Rafael.
Rafael has also been called up to the Brazil squad twice and was on the bench for a recent friendly game against France which shows he is being appricated by his international manager. As far as im aware Kelly has only a few call ups to the under 21's. This can also be put forward because Rafael has Maicon & Dani Alves ahead of him in the pecking order who many people see as some of the worlds best right backs, while Kelly has Glen Johnson.
If your comparing them going forwards then there is not much difference. Both have a single assist this season while Rafael has scored 2 goals against Arsenal at the emirates and against Wigan while Kelly has none. However anyone who recently saw the arsenal match will know that Rafael played at right midfield and still looked pretty accomplished even with a CM partnering of Gibson and O'Shea. He's also been deployed in centre midfeild against Barnsley which really means nothing in relation to this argument.
People will say that Rafael has a bad temper which is something I agree with. However his temprement has never led to him being sent off in any matches & ussually this bad temper is induced by any bad decisions towards us.
One of the other things thrown at Rafael is that "he always get sent off" which is not really true as he has only been sent off twice (both questionably and no straight reds). Kelly and Rafael have the same amount of yellows this season , yet Rafael has played in 6 more games.

Ronaldinho was wayyyyyyy past his best, Ribery is one of the most overrated players on the planet, and was off form at the time as well.
Just because you have played more games does not make you a better player. In fact, because Kelly has played less games and has built up such a reputation already rewards him more then Rafael.
Using National call ups? Stop clutching at straws, that doesn't make you a better player, that just means the manager is willing to experiment with youth, or has to call up a youth player due to injuries. At the time of the most recent England call ups Kelly was injured too.
The next paragraph, well you're just clutching at straws again.
And the next one, aforementioned UCL quarter final..
Also, Kelly has also been in a much worse team and defence, which gives him even more reward.
