Just like soccer, baseball is followed all over the world beyond just America and Canada or South America. There is a lot of money in baseball due to the number of fans. I find it boring as hell, but they call it America's favorite past-time (America as in the America's (north and south)).

Total attendance yearly in MLB has been around 70 or 75 million the past few years, so when you take those kind of numbers into account there is no surprise that these guys get paid as much as they do. Plus baseball players can last until their late 30s early 40s so they get long term contracts along with massive pay.
