Family Guy is like the ADD brother of American Dad. American Dad has a better story line. Family Guy is basically a very thinly weaved story with irrelevant gags set up randomly put in. I prefer American Dad, little bit more fulfilling.
I'm not a huge fan of either, but when I don't feel like concentrating on anything serious I'll stick either on. Generally a good hour of mindless TV.

Family Guy, i like American Dad but Stan and Roger are the only funny characters whereas Family Guy has more plus i like the flashbacks 'like the time i forgot how to sit down' etc

American Dad is mainly for ponces who have swallowed that South Park line that comedy NEEDS to have a story line.

I started watching American Dad when it first came out, but soon stopped. It was funny but I have been a huge Family Guy fan. I think Family Guy is more diverse in its jokes and plots.
