Please explain
How on earth can a player like Andy Carroll who has a solitary England cap command a 35 million pound transfer fee? When you have the likes of Charlie Adam selling for around 8 million. This is complete lunacy on whoever is responsible's part.

He's overrpriced, that's a given. But Adam isn't worth +8 million.

It's mad, although I think Adam is a pretty poor example. David Villa would be a better one.

Yes and no Ben. Yeah it's mad what Newcastle are asking for and no it's not a poor example by any means. Adam is a mint player well worth 8 million quid.

Hes a top striker and a consistant goal scorer as we've seen this season, worth more then £10m.

I meant positionally, but I also don't think I'd pay much more than £8m for Adam.

£35m for Caroll will be the most ridiculous transfer fee of all time if it goes through IMO. That would make him the 8th most expensive signing ever.

And I kinda think you're being serious here m8.
But no, he's worth a decent amount tbh, like 16-22 million.

Re: Please explain
In a non-inflated market, Carroll would have cost £9-£12 million. With natural Englishman inflation, £15-£18 million. But £35 million takes the piss, and to be honest, I doubt Even Man City would have paid that much.

Bet you're only saying that so nobody takes the piss when you buy him for £12mill.jeb4eva wrote:Ben wrote:It's mad, although I think Adam is a pretty poor example. David Villa would be a better one.

He's quite overrated of late, offers nothing at all defensively and I think his positional play might get him caught out playing for a bigger team where all his faults will get noticed more. At Blackpool people only tend to see the good stuff as they're punching above their weight, at a bigger club he will be under a much tougher microscope.
I think he is worth around 5-6million until he proves himself with another good season. Same with Carroll, about £15million till he proves himself further. Age is on his side though.

Re: Please explain
End of the day it's a big risk to take. He's had half a good season in the prem, so why is he worth so much?
Peter Odemwingie has had a good half season too, maybe he's worth like £25m. Oh wait he's not English

In a non inflated market players would cost £1 from when football first started
Inflation is part and parcel with our economy....that's just how it works.

lol He wouldn't go for 15 normally I think. And Citeh are known for spending way over the odds for a player but even they wouldn't spend that ludicrous sum for him.

As for Adam, well Holloway has done a good job of pipping his boy up. He gets a bit of cash from that deal too right?

Rio Ferdinand's twitter:
David villa cost 34m tweeps....integral member of successful spain team and played regular CL...UK market is crazy right now!
It's true, it really is a crazy market in the UK.

Re: Please explain
Anyone else find it ironic that Rio is the one to be talking about high transfer fees when he cost £30million, a sum which by defender transfer sums would suggest he was by a country mile the best defender in the world?
