Gers consider Riordan move | Sky Sports | Football | News

Skysports.com understands Rangers are considering a move for Hibernian forward Derek Riordan to boost their attacking options.

Rangers have lost Kenny Miller to Bursaspor this month and have also missed out on Derby County attacker Kris Commons, who is poised to join Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Former Celtic striker Riordan has now emerged as a potential target for Gers boss Walter Smith ahead of the closure of the transfer window.

Smith is trying to improve his squad and is weighing up whether to make an offer for the Scotland international.

Riordan has started Hibs' last two SPL matches on the bench and appeared as a second-half substitute in Wednesday's 2-0 home defeat by Rangers.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and he would be a cut-price option for Gers in the quest to replace the departed Miller.

Gers have also lined up Riordan as an alternative to David Goodwillie after Smith cooled his interest in signing the Dundee United striker.

I'm not sure about this one tbh. I liked him at Celtic and thought he deserved his chance because he was always good when he played which wasn't very often.

Well we'll just need to wait and see I suppose. It might be a load of shite but I would give him his chance tbh.

I'd say he's probably one of the best playmakers that we have as a nation tbh.

Although he's supposedly fell out with the players and staff at hibs.

Rangers offered 500k which was accepted but he wanted 19k and we were only prepared to pay 15k.

Before anyone says we couldn't afford him, we could we just don't think he's good enough to be on that considering he doesn't even get 10k at Derby.

Celtic have had a 300k bid accepted and are obviously prepared to pay 19k a week but he's not that good IMO.

If I was him I would have came to rangers because he's guarenteed a game every week with us because we have such a small squad.

But he'll just rot away somewhere like Ledley has. One of the best players in the championship and now he's shite tbh.

Plus he's not as good as everyone is trying to make out tbh.

    Oh well Kris enjoy.

I agree and Im not just saying this because it looks like he will go to Celtic. Ive never really liked him and when Ive seen him play he hasnt done it for me. He doesnt deserve to get the wages that Miller was on (20k a week) because he isnt as good as him. He is just another player joining the Celtic ranks for the money really.

Riorden would be a decent signing if he stopped acting like a cunt everywhere he went. Hes got the bit of pace we are lacking up front at the moment and is a proven scorer inn the league. If we could get him for under 500k then we should go for it but if not then we should look into signing Goodwillie. If either doesnt come through then apparently Novo isnt happy in Spain and is available back on loan. He wouldnt cost much wage wise, is a proven SPL player and still in the Rangers fans hearts. Would love to see the wee man back because he will always give 110% and thats what we really need. Bring back Novo Very Happy

Would like Rangers to make a cheeky loan move for Nile Ranger of Newcastle. Ive seen him play a few times and looks sharp. Really quick & strong. Just the type of person we need up front to help out Dado
