Roy Hodgson has crticised Hull City for their conduct during of Daniel Ayala's loan period.
With Jamie Carragher sidelined for up to nine weeks and Daniel Agger's road to recovery slightly prolonged, the Reds had hoped to recall the 20-year-old defender sooner to not only alleviate their centre-back shortage but also allow him to recover from a hamstring problem.
Hull had hoped to extend Ayala's stay at the KC Stadium but Nigel Pearson's refusal to allow him to return to Anfield has dashed those hopes and aggravated the injury, with the Spaniard currently recovering at Melwood, which has angered Hodgson greatly.
He said: "We wanted to bring him back for the last three weeks of 2010 to get him fit, because he wasn't fit there, and to cover Jamie Carragher. Hull totally refused and said, 'No, under the loan agreement he's here until January 1 and we're not prepared to allow him to go back.'
"We wanted him here at least until such time that he got fit from his hamstring injury, which we thought would be the middle of December, but they refused that as well and insisted he went back there.
"And then with the treatment he has been given there his injury has now been aggravated.
"Our fitness people were under the impression when he was here that they'd have him fit for about the 15th or 16th of December - now he won't be fit until the end of January because his injury has been exacerbated by going back to Hull City."
Hodgson is mulling over whether to loan the former Sevilla defender out again in January but has categorically ruled out another stint in East Yorkshire following the Tigers' behaviour.
"He'll certainly stay here until we get him fit, then we'll have a look at him and see if we think he's going to get enough games here," he added.
"It will depend very much upon how our situation looks at centre-back. There is a possibility that if we didn't think we needed him we'd loan him out again - but certainly not to Hull City."
