Goal.com have been named Best Football Website in the 2010 Soccerlens Awards, we are delighted to announce.
The shortlist for the awards is drawn up by Soccerlens and the Best Football Website is viewed as the most prestigious of the multiple categories.
The award winners are decided by a fan vote, and as such the Soccerlens Awards are recognised as one of the leading sources for identifying the best and brightest football sites and writers.
The 2010 awards - sponsored by Castrol Football and Studs Up Football Club - saw a record 37,000 votes cast.
In the Best Football Website category, Goal.com received an incredible 49 per cent of the vote ahead of BBC Football, Soccernet, Guardian Football and Sky Sports.
Goal.com PR Director Will Wood said: "We are delighted to be named Best Football Website in the Soccerlens Awards and it's the perfect end to 2010 for our editors and reporters who work hard to deliver the best, most comprehensive and representative football coverage.
"The voting to decide the winners is by the fans which makes it even more rewarding to win. Thank you to all those who voted for Goal.com, and we hope to continue our progress into 2011."
The achievement caps off a hugely successful year for Goal.com which saw the world's largest new media football community break its visitor records, as well as a host of other milestones.

Goal.com is underrated tbh, people slag it for making false reports, and make it seem as if they make all the reports themselves, but tbh the majority are them just passing on information from other sites.
And it is a great football site for finding out interviews etc, due to the timelapse bar.

Few websites can match Goal's comprehensive coverage of the game around the world. It has reporters/journalists/columnists from many footballing countries around the world, which gives the game a unique perspective, and not a bland regurgitation of the footballing news.

Practically every piece of news is from newspaper/website sources and the rest is basically editors writing articles

They just collect stories from various different places. Nothing wrong with that.

That's not true*. For example, Goal.com USA has reporters covering each MLS team, in addition to the 4 or 5 editors. That's just here in the US.
There are over 20 different versions of Goal.com, in over 15 different languages, each with editors and reporters that work to provide coverage.
*Entirely true. Of course there is some of that, as there is from every site. However, there is less regurgitation on the Goal site. At least within the goal site in the US.

So what? That's not an excuse. It's ok to just pass things on willy nilly without scrutinizing the content? What is this, the Drudge Report of football? It's not a real journalist organization then if it's passes along the work of other journalists regardless of how outrageous the claims are without verifying the information. That's tabloidism, not journalism.
As for the award, if Dances With Mother Fucking Cock Sucking Cunt Eating Anus Licking Wolves can beat out an iconic cult classic like Goodfellas for the Best Picture Oscar, anything is possible in the world of awards.

And then calls it journalism. Derp, we're just passing it along, derp.
Fuck that shit. That's not journalism. That's gossip.

He said majority, the last time i saw goal write a report based on their actual assumptions was a long long time ago... When they banner "exclusive" that's when they have editors finding out news themselves.
So erm... where are u going with this?

Does this sound like a rag that's admitting it's nothing more than a mere tabloid to you?

They have all the rhetorical makings of an organization that acts like it's engaged in journalism. Read between the lines a bit.

Ermm.. they were made the best football site for passing information about footballing topics onto people.. that's what they're doing.. right?

I have no idea what the criteria is. It was just a fan vote, it looks like. Which means it's a pure popularity contest. In that case, that's fine. I can see why it's popular. It's entertaining as hell. I love it, just like I love The Onion. But it's purely for entertainment.

Yeah, Carganese doesn't have the best reputation. Goal.com is owned by an Italian business man though. Some rich billionaire, so he'll be happy. Can't remember his name though.

To be honest, I don't read stuff on goal.com, but I suppose it isn't as bad as it's made out to be.

but whats the point in regurgitating every rumour and passing it off as their own story?
surely an award winning website should be sifting through the bullshit before publishing every fucking story! its a complete joke that goal.com have even been mentioned in the same sentence as an award and shows the intelligence of the muppets who vote for this sort of thing.
voted for by the readers of soccerlens! "a prestigious award"! - hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
isn't soccerlens just a collection of unpaid wannabe journo's? 90% of the time journalists are just giving their opinions anyway. paid or not an opinion aint worth shit unless you agree with it. fuck off goal & fuck off soccerlens!
