Re: Qatar: The goalposts move again
I don't even understand why Qatar want a World Cup. They don't need any extra money, they're football culture is virtually non existent, what's the point?

Re: Qatar: The goalposts move again
Because we were all led to believe that the technical bids are still important. And given that the US, England and Australia had virtually perfect technical bids, we figured we had a shot.
We were misled at best, blatantly lied to at worst.

And if the Persian Gulf in general doesn't do something to clean up their act in terms of workers' rights, social rights and women's rights before 2022, it's going to be an absolute embarrassment.

Although, China did just have the Olympics and nobody seemed to give a shit about the horrid conditions their workers live in and the reproductive restrictions that are placed on their women. So maybe I'm totally out of school in thinking the world still gives a shit about workers and women.

Having a World Cup in Qatar will massivley develop football in the Middle East. Although they need to prove themselves as a country that deserves to host a World Cup, if not this entire process is going to be a complete disaster and an embarrassment for FIFA.

Nobody?
There were thousands of people protesting about it daily during the Games. There were people who tried to take the flame on it's 'World Tour'.
But like FIFA, the IOC only cared about one thing with bids, money.

Re: Qatar: The goalposts move again
I'm not even that pissed off about Russia getting it, i'm more baffled at how England came last in the bidding process.
We had everything FIFA required to host a brilliant World Cup, but somehow that only amounts to 2 votes out of 22. The bidding process is extreamly flawed and to be quite frank, it dosen't make much sense. It needs a complete over haul and must be restructured.

I doubt there will be any fit women with a loada cleavage showing like that Paraguyan chick at Qatar.
It'll be full of postbox women, resulting in a poor World Cup

this says more about you than it does the emirate of Qatar. have you never looked at a map, globe or atlas? do people no longer seek knowledge? do you only know what the media wanna tell ya?
Qatar only exists because of our country and British troops have been stationed there for hundreds of years on and off!
it is still a ridiculous decision to send the World Cup there though! it seems FIFA have been handing out the tournament as a prize to the under developed, backward thinking and corrupt!

Re: Qatar: The goalposts move again
actually australia bid have nothing to do with sharing
new zealand federation trying to suggest this to australia about 2 years ago but australia knock them down and telling them simply to 'fuck off'
but blatter has very bad memory and attention span he forgot about this and he mentioning in interview that aussie try to share bid with other country when it is not truth. so blatter was shame for this a few day ago and had to having fifa rep to protect him in during press conference
but yes with this qatar thing, it is being shown that fifa never bother using constructive guidline via bid book for these world cup desicions and just voted towards their own pocket. first world cup will get switched to january, now it will being shared with other countries. it is 1 big joke

It's practically a false bid if they have to, that would make them unfit to host it

Whoever is hosting it has been decided.
Now they have to make it work, and if this is how, then fine.

Yeah, no big deal. The country that has been chosen to host it, isn't actually capable of doing so within their own bid, even though there were plenty of other bids that were. No big deal, they've got money, so that issue doesn't matter.

Re: Qatar: The goalposts move again
Actually, it would still be Qatar. I'd imagine they'd be renting the stadium from Bahrain, not Bahrain hosting it themselves.
There was similar talk here in Poland regarding if we would need to rent a stadium from Germany or Czech Republic should Ukraine fail to host, and we couldn't build the last stadium on time. (As we'd have Wisla's stadium, our NT stadium in Chorzow, and Bialystok's stadium once completed (this year) can be quickly expanded to over 35k, we'd still be missing one which would need to be built)

You really don't have a problem with them not telling us all of the material details of how they would host the World Cup until after they've won the bid? You don't think this is something the voters should have been told so they could make a fully informed decision when they vote? First, they propose to move the Cup to January. Now they tell us they might need help hosting. Those are two material elements of how they plan to play host. And you're just poo pooing it? Thank God people like you aren't running FIFA...
oh wait

You're just not getting this through your head. If they want Bahrain to host a couple games, fine. FUCKING TELL THE COMMITTEE THAT BEFORE THEY VOTE THEN! Christ.

That's the point. The whole bid process was a superfluous charade. And in a time where nations are exacting austerity measures, it's a flagrant waste of resources.
