Qatar World Cup in January? Empty Qatar World Cup in January?

Post by Guest Thu Dec 09, 2010 6:49 am

    http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Qatar-FIFA-World-Cup-2022-could-be-played-in-JANUARY-because-of-a-risk-to-player-health-article643731.html

it's only reported my the mirror which is a fucking rag of the highest order, but there's no smoke without fire as they say.

if this has any truth to it. it just goes to show what a stupid decision FIFA made.

sorry to bring the whole World Cup thing to the fore again. but fuck.

good. now all Qatar have to do is develop air conditioning technology that doesn't exist yet. i can see this being one boring trip for those fortunate enough to afford it.

    FUCK FIFA.

Look at what FIFA has done.

They've given the World Cup to a country run by a Mafia government with no journalistic freedom and another to a boiling hot desert country with hardly any social freedom.

All in the name of "expanding horizons," or some shit like that which they didn't express to the bid committees.

But Russia and Qatar have no doubt made assurances about transparency (or lack thereof). Western Europe, the US and Australia were not able to restrict the media's freedom to investigate corruption!

They say they are going to have air conditioned stadiums built by then....which is a tall task.

What about the rest of your God forsaken country? It's going to be 120 at noon. I'm sure all the fans will hate that. The players have to practice somewhere, probably in the heat.

You know what goes hand in hand with watching soccer? Getting hammered drunk. Too bad that's now allowed in Qatar. You know what else is associated with the World Cup? Bitches from all over the planet getting smashed and naked....too bad they will be stoned to death for that....

What a fuck up by FIFA. That shithole over the USA? Wow people REALLY don't want us to be "in" worldwide "football"

That reminds me. I saw an article today (can't find it now) where a FIFA official claims the selection process was totally transparent. She justified the secret ballot system, however, by saying "you don't get to know who I voted for in the French presidential election either. That's my right to keep it secret." Which made me nearly gag. She compared private citizen voting in a government election (where said citizen is beholden to nobobody and nothing but her own good conscience) to a FIFA Executive Committee member's vote for the World Cup hosts. It would be like a member of our congress, or the UK's parliament saying to her constituents "you don't have to tell anybody who you voted for, so I don't have to tell you how I voted on this piece of legislation."

    Absolutely fucking outrageous.

My favorite part about the air conditioned stadium bit is the utterly absurd claim that it's going to somehow be carbon neutral. haha No shit? Are you going to perfect cold fusion by then too? These guys are promising technology that we've only seen in Star Trek thus far.

Maybe if it's too hot one day, they can just beam everbody to the Rose Bowl in California to play the game as an emergency option.

Someguy on a Polish forum of mine says that Qatar are only intending on having some 500k fans come, according to their presentation.

To put this into perspective, 200k Poles went to Germany 2006.

I think it's a good thing having it in Qatar.

I mean, it will push the players to their limits playing in that heat, so we'll be able to see which ones have the physical and mental strenght to prevail.

Common misconception that Sepp Blatter wanted the World Cup in Qatar. He voted for South Korea in the earlier rounds, and then USA in the final round.

But the football will most probably be rubbish because all the players will be exhausted and dehydrated, some may even suffer from heat stroke.

FIFA can't possibly move the tournament to January because it will fuck up the entire league system in Europe. The temperature is going to be really difficult to cope with, unless they pull off this air conditioning technology thing. Neutral

Nah. Not really. Florida has about 12 times the population of Qatar. And by my top-of-the-head count, it has about 6 significant metropolises compared to Qatar's one.

    Even Florida dwarfs Qatar.
