Why Does Qatar Deserve It?

Nothing wrong with being opposed to Qatar's bid today. No one bid is perfect, so to think they might/should lose was not wrong.

That said, they deserved it (just as everyone in the 2022 group did, to be honest), and it will make for an interesting tournament. For the same reasons why it was intriguing to have the tournament here in '94, and South Africa this year, the Qatar World Cup will make for a good (new) host.

One of the more intriguing things for me is how close everything will be. Logistically, it might be a bit difficult to navigate, but I love the fact that everyone will be around the same area. Should make for some fun cultural mixing!

Of course not. But it's wrong to say that Qatar doesn't deserve it just as much or is not suitable for holding a World Cup which a lot of people were claiming earlier today.

Yeah, that was in reference to Luxor, who said it was ignorant to be opposed to Qatar's bid

It's more to do with the way in which people were opposing it......not something like because you're Australian/American and want your country to win.

Just making sure. I can't speak for everyone (I have seen some real ignorant people since the announcement), but for me there was nothing wrong with it going to Qatar, Australia, Japan, or Korea.

Why did you leave USA out?

I don't think Korea or Japan deserved it, they hosted it too recently...it should've been China representing Asia.

Olympics.

Indonesia could host a good tournament I would imagine, if they had the financial backing.

At the end of the day, I am glad Qatar got it.

Also Olympics aren't to do with sport, but with that in mind you can't moan too much. Still I'd much rather have the World Cup here than the Olympics.

Qatar does seem like an intriguing area.

Why do they deserve it over Australia?
We haven't had the world cup either...It's less of a risk holding it in Australia than it is in Qatar.
Qatar are getting the Asian Cup aswell...

is very wrong for people to use racist excuse and terrorism to venting frustration for qatar. for the effort and money they invest they surely deserve this

is only logistical factor which is all very true that can be argued about this

out of the 5 bid for 2022, qatar was the only bid to fail in over half of the guidlines with their bid book

i have no problem if this is the way fifa will dictate all bids because their guideline for hosting criteria is very outdated, but they must use qatar as a precedent. they now should not deny any country that fails to abide by guidlines set by fifa, and if they do then they are hypocrite

Not really bothered about Qatar getting it, the 2018 bid is the one that annoys me most

The stadiums look absolutely fantastic. Although, they need to pull it off and they should given how filthy rich they are.

The only problem I can think of is at the moment it is winter and its 27 degrees during the day and highs of 20 during the night. In the summer, when the word cup will be played, surely its going to be roasting? The air conditioning will really need to work.

I have nothing against the bid and I know FIFA want to spread the world cup to as many continents, as possible. But the only thing I can see here is that they only have 2 leagues, around 17 teams and they lack any support. Englands attendances in one weekend is more than they get a year. FACT.

With a small population this could be huge for them and well their economy etc... blah blah.

Drinking issue. Drinking in fan zones is fine but surely not every one will want to drink in a fanzone all the time and will want to enjoy a bar? Very hot weather + Beer = Dehydration = more drinking beer = very drunk people. They will need a system in place to stop people drinking to much in the very hot weather or things could get out of hand.

Other from that, looks like it could be a god world cup.

We wont talk about Russia...

I'm still concerned about the climate and the lack of passion for the sport in Qatar.

To be honest, I was joking yesterday when I was slating everything they done, it was more because they chose Russia so I just thought I'd have a pop at them about everything.

Don't really care where the World Cup is held unless it's held in England, which 2018 should be.

And I think we passed all the guidlines in our book, FIFA's negative about us in their technical report was "no government guarentees" whatever that means.

Not bitter or anything, but what's the point of those bid books if they don't affect anything?

Same, i was just slagging off Qatar yesterday because i was really pissed off about England's failed bid.

It's a cover up. The books that matter are the cheque books!

The climate is an issue that they will need to solve but...

Gulf States are fanatical about Football. There is passion there.
