I also really dislike Rooney, so I may be very biased on that one. But it's true when I say a large chunk of United fans think he shouldn't even be starting for them, let alone be their captain. I wouldn't want him at Liverpool, at all.

I have given perfectly good reasons for choosing Coutinho and Sterling over Mata and Di Maria for LIVERPOOL, are you just choosing to ignore them?

"I'd have Coutinho (22) over Mata (26), only due to the way we play, which is a bit too high-paced for Mata, and Mata doesn't suit our pressing game."

Chelsea got rid of Mata for similar reasons. Even though he was technically better than the likes of Oscar and Willian, he didn't suit the Mourinho football style. This is my point, sometimes it's not about individual talent. Sometimes it's about the team and how it fits together. (This is also why I think Di Maria is a fucking retard signing for United, especially for the £60 million being reported).

"I'd have Sterling (19) over Di Maria (26), for this season at least, as we don't know how well Di Maria will take the the PL (See Ozil's underwhelming first season, even Keyser is pissed off with him), and we don't know just how good Sterling may become, plus he's settled here. "

How can you argue with those reasons?

Also, Di Maria only scored 4 goals in what, 35 League appearances? Coutinho and Sterling both scored more, in a more competitive League (not that it's really relevant to my argument). Even Lallana scored more (again, not really relevant).

Sean wrote:Rooney pretty much carried United last year as well, Balotelli isnt even a Liverpool player yet and he's already better than Rooney..

Carried Man United? To what? A 7th place finish? Laughing Rooney is fucking abysmal. How he's on £300k a week, I have no idea. He's crap.

The bit I've bolded shows that you also don't fully understand my angle. It's not about who's better individually. That's my whole point. I am not saying Sterling/Coutinho are better than Mata/Di Maria as individual footballers. But for Liverpool, the way we play, they're a better fit (in the case of Di Maria, for this season at least, like I said, due to the possibility that he may be another Ozil).

Well for one Balotelli is the complete antithesis of the way Liverpool play with invalidates that argument. At least Rooney works hard and presses.

Also Rooney was the only player who really preformed anywhere near full ability under Moyes, just because the rest of the team was a complete shit show it's not his fault.

Liverpool fan using mental gymnastics to make the Liverpool player look better than an opposition player, shocker

You're no better than the faggots who used to say that Vidic wouldn't be able to replace Agger's role in the team a few years ago rofl

For someone who likes to harp on about stats when it benefits a Liverpool player, try looking at Rooney's stats from last season.

this entire "omfg my team's #10 doesn't press we are so out of it" phase is embarrassing nowadays, Mata is an outstanding player and would be an asset to almost any team (only exceptions are the top European sides obvi). he would walk into Liverpool's team ahead of Coutinho. it's so hilarious how you mention how Mata doesn't suit Liverpool's pressing game, but when it comes to Balotelli, there is no mention of it. rofl

Like I said, the Balotelli/Rooney one is more down to my bias. The logic is perfectly reasonable when applied to the other 2 players. And like I said, Mata/Chelsea was a similar situation. You and Luke even tweeted similar stuff when you sold him.

Rooney was wank last year, along with the rest of them. Why the hell do you think nearly everyone was saying he shouldn't be in the England first team at the WC? Why the hell do you think the majority of United fans want him dropped? He's awful.

I said United were average, Novi came along and basically said what does that make Liverpool? Due to United having more world class players.

My point is (and I've said this several times now) that it doesn't always matter how many individual world class players a team has. It doesn't automatically make them better than a team with less/no world class players and we have proved that, by showing that we're far superior to United.

    So, City vs Liverpool. Predictions?

Game has come too soon for us. I expect us to lose narrowly, so would be very happy with a draw. I hope to see Markovic come on at some point.

It's not always about individual talents. It's about the team. We showed that last season.

It's a pretty shit argument, anyway. I'd rather have Sturridge (24) scoring 20+ open play goals than an ageing (31, ffs) RVP, who's injured half the season and only scoring around 12 goals, including penalties. If that means having 1 world class player less, so be it.

    In fact:

I'd have Sturridge (24) over RVP (31), based on their respective forms over the last season and what I said above.

I'd have Balotelli (24) over Rooney (28), because I think Rooney is extremely overrated. Most United fans are saying he shouldn't even be starting.

I'd have Coutinho (22) over Mata (26), only due to the way we play, which is a bit too high-paced for Mata, and Mata doesn't suit our pressing game.

I'd have Sterling (19) over Di Maria (26), for this season at least, as we don't know how well Di Maria will take the the PL (See Ozil's underwhelming first season, even Keyser is pissed off with him), and we don't know just how good Sterling may become, plus he's settled here.

Who else have they got that's "world class"?

I'd take De Gea (23) over Mignolet (26).

    That's it.

(I have bracketed the ages, because I also really like how young our best players are, which means they're yet to even hit their peak).
