Suarez banned for 9 games, and 4 month ban from football

Exactly.  Look at how this country treated David Beckham in 1998, the experience transformed him personally and he is now a global icon. When Suarez does something terribly he is canonised for it by everyone around him, exacerbating his behaviour.

The support for him was probably a way of them sticking to fingers up to Fifa. Most fans of a team that has lost their best player to a suspension will feel hard done by and put aside what the player has done.

I feel like most fans might accept that their player biting someone would result in a ban.

FIFA has its problems, but I don't think defending a universally condemned figure is the way to protest corruption.

If it were debatable, you could understand their defending him, but it was clear as day that it was intentional. I've not seen a single Uruguayan come out and criticise Suarez. The captain is acting like a spineless fool, the manager threw a hissy fit, and the people are applauding his return. All of them are acting like the victims when they're not.

If that's the case, why have so many of his fellow players/coaches come out and complained about the very principle of giving him the ban, not just the length?  Some (Suarez included) have even said that he either didn't bite him or it's just something that happens in football.

I don't really understand the point people are making when they bring up that Defoe thing. The FA made a mistake in not charging Defoe in 2006, it doesn't mean they have to repeat the mistake in 2013, much less that FIFA have to be bound by it in 2014.

Uruguay fans last night  

You have Uruguay's captain saying the punishment against Suarez is an act of human rights violation.

Suarez must piss mind altering drugs into the water supply everywhere he goes. Absolute loons.

If you're referring to Liverpool fans, well, the majority of us have pretty much disowned him now. It's mainly the Uruguay fans that have been absolutely baffling.

Exactly, he's left, gone to South America and now suddenly you're behaving rationally.

I would not criticize any said by Uruguayan national team between the incident and before they were eliminated from the World Cup.  At that point their top player was taken away and they still had a chance and likely backed Suarez to unite the team hoping to somehow manage to make the next round of the cup.  Now that they are out their true view of this should show if they talk at all.

CAS upholds the ban. He can train and take part in footballing activities starting today. But he will still serve his match suspensions.

The Uruguay matches he is banned for have to be official matches. Assuming that doesn't include friendlies, that means that he'll miss the Copa next
