What were you expecting? 6/1 for next goal is mental.

Those were the odds It was during the Uruguay onslaught right at the beginning of the 2nd half. Just after Cavani's miss.
The mistake I made was to put my 20 in the wrong box when going back to my betting slip.
It was done on the app. Would never have made that mistake on my laptop.

6/1 for England to score next, seriously? Those are insane odds, I thought you meant as in you misinterpreted the bet

Exactly, which is why I had to do it, even though it looked so certain at the time that Uruguay would score again, first.

Joel Campbell had played one game less and he's already eclipsed Sterling

Gerrard let his country down as much as he let the 96 down. Worst England captain of all time.

Hopefully this makes Rodgers think twice about having Gerrard as our anchor man in midfield next season.

I guess it depends on whether or not he wants to continue with the ridiculously attack-minded approach of last season. To me, that would be a naive move with teams wisening up and more fatigue in our squadScott_LFC wrote:Hopefully this makes Rodgers think twice about having Gerrard as our anchor man in midfield next season.

He's proven he can adapt/change things. I'm sure he'll do the right things, tactically.

Even if he does want to continue with the attack-minded approach Gerrard shouldn't be starting..

Teams wisening up? My friend, teams wisening up will just mean that they play ultra defensive against you, in which case attack minded is the best approach. It happened with City a few years ago and made every home game horrendous.

So, are we going to talk about how Sterling was branded a flop in that game? I mean people were raving about him after the Italy game because a few websites rated him highly.

Tbf fair, one of those has Cahill at 7.8 and Glen down at 7.2.

Cahill looked pretty decent most of the match.

Glen's big moment was some scorching play for the equalizer, Gaz's big moment was losing Suarez (SGCFYNWA also to blame).SBSP wrote:Cahill looked pretty decent most of the match.

Oh, didn't notice that Cahill was shit, but Ikechi2608 has assured me that WhoScored? uses a highly accurate algorithm to compile their ratings.

Either way, Sterling was poor. It's a shame that our best player from the first match had to be moved to accommodate Wayne Rooney.Keyser Söze wrote:Glen Miller wrote:Tbf fair, one of those has Cahill at 7.8 and Glen down at 7.2.

Re: World Cup 2014 discussion thread.
My thoughts on the game:
Poor from England. We played much better against Italy, and that's understandable, due to how they stood off us, giving us space, whereas Uruguay were in our faces right from the start.
Our goal was a pretty good one, though, to be fair. Henderson to Sturridge, Sturridge tricks his way out of what seemed like a dead end, and through-balled it to Glen, who beat his man with a good sharp change of direction, laying it on a plate for Rooney to tap in. Love it.
Both of Suarez's goals were brilliant. The placement of the first one was simply amazing and the second one was ridiculously clinical considering the angle and the pressure of Cahill (who should have done much better, imo).
Hart was poor for both goals, I think. Particularly the second one. It went over his shoulder.
Johnson was back to his usual poor self. One moment of brilliance doesn't change anything. He constantly lost the ball or made shit passes.
Cahill was decent overall. Handled Suarez the best he could and besides letting Suarez have a free run at goal to score the 2nd, he was solid.
Jagielka. Didn't really notice him, tbh.
Baines was a lot better than he was against Italy, but also at fault for Suarez's 2nd goal. How he and Cahill didn't anticipate a glancing header, which happens in every single match, I'll never know.
Henderson didn't do anything noteworthy. Just kept the passes simple. Could have been a bit more adventurous. He was playing in a role that doesn't suit him. Saw a good quote on twitter somewhere about how playing him in a DM role is like taking an energetic dog to the park and keeping him on a 5-foot leash. He should have been let loose.
Gerrard was abysmal. Literally nothing good to say about his performance.
Sterling struggled on the wing, with 2 Uruguayans constantly closing him down as soon as he got the ball. He'd beat the first one, then maybe the second, but then run into a dead end. He had no support. Had a good dribble soon before he was subbed off, when he mazed into the penalty area (the one where he knocked out that Uruguayan player with his knee). Thought that could have been a penalty on another day.
Welbeck was crap, as usual. Did nothing, really. Couldn't beat a man, couldn't hold up the ball, kept losing it. Had no support, like Sterling.
Rooney. Why did he start? He was awful, again. Missed a header from 1 foot away, shot at the GK when he had the whole goal at his mercy, etc. Scored a tap in, so that'll take the attention away from how bad he really was.
Sturridge had a poor game overall. Dribbles weren't quite coming off, same with shots. His dribble in the build up to our goal was superb, though.
Lallana, Barkley and Lambert offered nothing when they all came on.
Same old, same old, really.
I do think the game deserved to be a draw though. Same for the Italy game, so we were a little unlucky in that regard. Defensive lapses cost us against Italy and we were undone by the sheer brillance of Suarez last night.

And I'm so, so glad Suarez is ours. SAS will wreak havoc again this coming season.

Re: World Cup 2014 discussion thread.
was cahill on a yellow? because maybe he should of being more physical against suarez when he was recovering on second goal
he seem a bit scare to slide in obv because he doesnt want to make a foul or sent off but maybe he was to naive
+
jagielka was stupid and ball watching the header. he should of make decision to attack the ball or get square with cahill
was freak goal but class finish by top player
i thought england play prtty good in second half, i would say maybe a bit unlucky
scott ur harsh on rooney again and seem to want to give excuses for sterling
sterling was shocking i agree he should play in the middle and not wing but whatever
rooney all round play was actually ok but he had bad finishing. i feel like he had a lot of passion against uruguay he tried his best, his run after suarez second goal off the kick off he ran against 6-7 uruguay players like a maniac he really did try his best
