On that note, what is a good yearly rate for a computer's price?  By that I mean, if you buy a 600 dollar laptop, how many years do you expect out of it? There are some laptops equivalent to my current one that go for about 250, and if I managed to get 2-3 years out of that, surely that would be decent?

$100ish a year sounds like excellent value for a laptop.

I have a hate boner for Avatar and have since I saw it.

The others are okay, but nothing special. It just shows that quality of the movie isn't the thing that dictates how much it makes. If a movie panders to a wide audience and markets well it will do very well.

Avatar and Titanic weren't anything special at all. I'm confused why they are so high up. Whilst Marvel's The Avengers and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 weren't much better the worlds they are based in do have a massive fanboy following.

I've only seen Avengers, and I thought it was decent. Avatar and Titanic grossed so much because of special effects. I have no intention of seeing either of them though.

Frozen has been massively hyped because it's basically the first good Disney musical since Mulan. I think it's also still in cinemas despite coming out about 8 months ago.

That is extremely expensive. It's usually about £20-£40. However if the actual motherboard was burnt or damaged beyond repair then maybe the price was fair, a motherboard can be very expensive to replace especially in new laptops.

My motherboard was rekt at one point, cost like £400 to replace.

Also, I want a new laptop too. A MacBook Pro, obviously. But I can't justify spending £999 (and that's just the lowest spec).

Mine is getting on a bit.

The only advantage to a Macbook is the battery life. I have better specs on my PC for half the price.

How can I tell if it's the motherboard?  They just plugged it in and saw the charge wasn't working with various chargers, I'm guessing they need to do more than that?

Personally, I feel the OS on a Mac pisses all over Windows. I use Windows sometimes at work and it's a clunky mess compared to the sleek and simple OS on a Mac.

Then there's the fact that viruses/malware are virtually non-existent compared to what you get on a PC.

As for spec, like speed and graphics, it's not something I really care about, because I don't do gaming on a computer. I have a PS4 for that. For what I want out of a Laptop, Mac > PC.

Macbooks are also sexy as fuck. The trackpad gestures are amazing too (swiping different directions to do different things, etc) although, I am unaware if PCs have implemented the same thing nowadays?

It's worth mentioning that I was very much anti-Mac before my parents bought me a Macbook Pro as a "starting Uni" present. Took me a few weeks to finally admit I was wrong all along.

I could never go back to having a PC now. No chance.

I also was anti-iPhone too, but now I have one of those too and wouldn't go back.

It's fine if cost isn't an issue, but none of those are reason enough for me to pay twice the price. Windows 8 is lovely if you have a touchscreen.

It is expensive, and I never would have spent that much on one myself, if I hadn't been given one as a present.

But having used it since 2008, if it were to die, I'd rather spend £1000+ on a new Macbook Pro, than half that on a PC Laptop.

Edit: Jesus, just realised I've had it for 6 years now. Crazy. Still runs like new internally, although it's a bit battered cosmetically (hence why I kind of want a new one).

Phone up some independent retailers, Glen, ask for a quote seeing as you have a rough idea of what the problem is. I doubt it's your Motherboard, I don't think it would work at all if it was.

Macbooks are stupidly expensive for what they are but it's down to preference in the end, all though a lot of them go to waste as they're bought for casual use when they're great if your in Graphics or a Software Engineer.

The touchpad on the macbook pro is better to use than most mouses, whereas the touchpad on most laptops are horrendous. It's cool once you learn all the shortcuts you can do by putting 2-3 fingers on the pad and swiping in different directions. It allows me to do nothing with my spare time more efficiently than ever, what a world we live in.

It's most likely not going to be the motherboard, but they're charging you such a high price I would assume they're going to replace the motherboard or just rip you off. Have you tried a different battery in it?

Hmm...I haven't, but I could try that the next time I go back as my dad has the same laptop.  What should I be looking for with that test?
