Thing is, once they get Suarez.....nothing's stopping them. Only thing holding Arsenal back is the lack of persistent goal-threat, winning-mentality and good management. He'll solve at least two.

Was hoping he would stay on and take that role for us once Rodgers finished his two or three seasons, can't complain with Carragher in the wings though.

I think that we can use Brendan's "I'm my own mentor" philosophy and just scrap the whole "coaching & management" thing altogether.  Let the lads scrap it out for a starting position every Friday morning.

They didn't have Arteta, though.  Besides, Suarez is two levels higher and isn't a big game bottler like the Dutchman.  You won't see him trying to perform a 6 yard lob to book a spot in the QFs of the CL, nor will you see him getting sent off in a knockout match. After all, we all know that if Suarez is the master of anything, it's not getting caught during the match.

    They did have Arteta.

Whilst what you've said about Suarez is true, let's not forget that he'll be missing the first 6 games of the campaign and is likely (more likely than anyone else, at least) to face further bans in the coming years.

Let's also not forget that we probably won't sell Suarez to Arsenal.

Apparently Arsenal are going to make a third bid for Suarez. £42.5 million.

Yeah, because adding £2.5million to your previous bid, which was categorically rejected, is going to make all the difference facepalm

They had an Arteta still suffering from Moyes Syndrome.

It might have something to do with the timing of the payments. The last one could have been 35 + 5 million in add-ons, this could be 42.5 million straight up. think

Either way, I'm excited by the inflated fee we're going to receive.

I wouldn't be happy with £42.5 million. I mean, maybe I'm still haunted by the whole Carroll for £35 million fiasco, but £42.5 million is not enough.

I'd be okay with £45 million from a foreign club, I suppose. But for me to be happy with him going to Arsenal, the fee would have to be around £55-60 million.

42.5 million pounds is way too much. Wenger has fucked up pretty badly by letting other targets slip away and forcing us to overpay for Suarez. I'm sure if we had an alternative we would never consider paying this absurd price.

Yeah, Kenny has left us forever scarred with large transfer fees. It's a figure that doesn't really promise anything.

I think we might break even with the transfers from that fateful January. We just need for Suarez to go for more than around 40 million and we'll manage it.

He was probably right to let Higuain go to Napoli.  If he wanted a limited goalscorer he would just get Danny Graham or Stephen Fletcher. Rolling Eyes

I agree, I'm glad he didn't pursue him but it still puts us in a position where we have to overpay if we want to get Suarez. There were decent alternatives (all significantly better than Giroud) that we could have displayed an interest in, if only to show that we're not desperate for Suarez.
