Copa Libertadores 2013
Might as well make a thread. First goal of the group stage was scored a couple of minutes ago.

Re: Copa Libertadores 2013
In the game above Alonso score the tying goal. He's supposed to be retired because he has a heart problem. At least that's what he told Toluca.
Speaking of which, I totally forgot they were in this Copa Libertadores. They are currently tying Boca away from home. It'd be typical if they have a respectable run in the cup. Mexican teams tend to do well in South America even if they aren't in good form in the league.
I remember American making it to the 2007 Cocap Sudamericana despite being second worst team in the league.
Also, English stream for that match.

Re: Copa Libertadores 2013
Yeah, I saw the end of the match.
Mexican football is so inconsistent. Go from losing 4-1 in the weekend to outplaying and beating one of the most historic clubs in the continent away from home.
Ojitos Meza is one of my favorite managers so I hope they have a good run.
Speaking of managers. Carlos Bianchi is the spitting image of the father of the Mexican Revolution, Miguel Hildago y Costilla.

It's like something that was inspired by the imagination of a 10 year old to me.Rei Andros wrote:Deportes Iquique has the best club badge in the tourny this year.
I can't watch that team play. Because every time I do I get a feeling Mexicans call pena ajena thanks to Leon.
It's like second hand shame.

Corinthians looked to be coming back into the game before I went to grab some grub. Can see them grabbing the win with a scrappy goal.

Re: Copa Libertadores 2013
Brazilian vs Mexican club is always going to end in favor of the Brazilian clubs. Can't think of the last time a Mexican team got the better of a Brazilian side.
Or at least Chivas has never. Well once in recent memory. It was against lowly Atletico Paranaense(sp?) and even then it was de pansaso(bellyflop/skin of their teeth.) Of course then Inter ripped us a new one soon after.

Re: Copa Libertadores 2013
Pft. It's a two legged race. Tijuana will get done in at São Paulo.
I didn't watch the game, but Tijuana are known for having a very strong defense and being good on the counter attack. They also have Paulo Aguilar and Gandolfi who are lethal at corners, and Arce who is fantastic at whipping them into the box. Those things will work in Tijuas but it won't in Brazil.
Of course, I hope I'm wrong. Despite rumors that they are affiliated with drug cartels, they are a likable club.

Re: Copa Libertadores 2013
Mexican clubs field a double pivot that seem to never tire and bite at your heels for 90 minutes, hope to force a mistake and sweat a goal in. That's pretty much what 2/3rds of the clubs in Mexico do.
