i don't know start, i am also debating the same issue as my laptop is slow as fuark and i could do with getting a new one anyways, so windows 8 might just be a bit of a waste if i only keep it for say 6 months/1 year

If you have 4gb+ RAM, yes.

If not, it'll do the opposite and slow you down.

You'd be much better just getting a new laptop though.

I've had the same laptop for about 4 years now, just can't afford getting a new one. Plus it's not like i have any problems with my current one anyways. Would just like it to be quicker really

You can't really make laptops considerably quicker as there aren't really any upgrades available.
