The University Discussion Thread Empty The University Discussion Thread

Post by crump Sun Jan 06, 2013 1:28 am

I'm just going to make this thread so we can discuss all our matters here and members have the choice to avoid this discussion.

    I'll start things off:

    1) Is it really worth clubbing together to get a TV license? Is it a pain in the arse process or not, if it is, I think I could happily live off using iPlayer, streams and the like.

    2) Best bank accounts to go with? I'm obviously thinking of one with a fat overdraft and basically no interest, which would be handy, and something that offers you a freebie, cash upfront etc?

    3) When did the majority of you start receiving offers? Sent mind out the 21st and I haven't had an offer yet.

When I sent mine I didn't check for a few weeks then when I did I had all 5 offers, that was probably 4 weeks after sending it though, maybe a bit longer.

I'm still waiting for Essex and UEA and I sent mine off early december, Essex is like 3rd/4th choice so I really don't care about them tbh

Mal you lucky kunt, did you apply via a school/college? I've heard if you do it solo you get much quicker replies.

Not bad John, I'm hoping I get a few soon, and Foncesca, what are your other options? Where abouts is UEA also?

My last choice is Bristol or Plymouth. Simply for location purposes.

I've had all my offers now. Glasgow is the best I've applied for, which is ABB

I dunno if I really want to go there, I've applied to two of the Liverpool ones and I think I'd prefer to live there rather than in Glasgow but I dunno..

The application for student finance looks like and feels like it's going to be a massive fucking ball ache.

I'd definitely go to Liverpool, Cam, at least one of them.

It's probably because it's Middlesex, which is in the outskirts of London and literally has no interest by anyone and UEA is Norwich.

It was like Kent, Swansea, Plymouth, Norwich and Essex. Apart from Kent and Norwich the rest were put in for the lols really

I've had four choices with me just waiting for Chester at the minute.

When I went to Leeds Met they said they hadn't even watched the television really so there was no point in getting a TV license.

I guess I have picked popular places?

Notts Trent, MMU, Bristol UWE, Plymouth and Southampton Solent.

Would I be at a disadvantage not doing a business-like previous qualification apart from a GCSE before my degree?

I suppose so yeah, what will you be studying?

Technically you need a TV licence to watch iPlayer etc. as well. Or at least to watch live streams.

Just thinking, it's gonna be weird without Sky if I leave home. Neutral

Only Bangor have received my application. Only got my UCAS letter today Alee

I was under the impression iPlayer was a free online service, the shows aren't live broadcasted so I'm gonna do it anyway, phuck em.

Where do I stand over pirating stuff from Uni broadband? Better off going to Starbucks?

I better start getting some offers from Monday.

You can watch BBC channels live on the iPlayer, which is what you have to have a license for

TV licensing issues are bogus. Just go on the site dedicated to it, and fill a short form saying you don't watch tv, sorted.

I'll probably just buy it If I'm alright for money really... I don't think I could live without television.

Only live streamed stuff do you need a TV license for, even then Skygo said you don't need one on their website for their stuff.

As long as I have NBA League Pass, I'm fine.

I think my first offer was 3 days after it was sent; probably go with Liverpool (AAB) and Swansea (BBB).

I don't know where I want to go to Uni, I don't want to end up in some shit hole in the middle of nowhere.

Is there a Uni in Stoke? Imagine being there, full of inbred scruffs, I'd rather become a brickie.

I hope people are prepared to live in a primarily french speaking community then. The school itself is technically English speaking but most of the students there will be french speaking. Not to mention outside of school there will be a lot of people who only speak french. Not to mention French Canadians are the worst kind of Canadians.

The most well rounded school is by far U of T. The best engineering school is Waterloo. Both you will have an influx of Asians. Even though U of T is closer to me than any I applied to Queens and McMasters are more suited to me, with Waterloo just being a third option.
