Most likely the lesser game in the group of champions this Tuesday, but none the less a meeting of two CL winners from the 90s.
Ajax are the dutch champions and Dortmund are the deutsche champions. Ajax have 31 national championships to Dortmund's 8, both have also won an UEFA Cup Winners Cup trophy.
Last time the two squads met in Dortmund current Ajax coach Frank De Boer wasn't playing (a knock) but his brother was, a few names from the 90s golden generation also were. Frank played the return leg of the match at home which saw Ajax through who eventually went to the final for the 2nd year in a row.
• The lineups for the Dortmund encounter on 6 March 1996 were:
Dortmund: Klos, Júlio César, Kohler, Reuter, Schmidt (Herrlich 46), Berger, Freund, Reinhardt, Ricken (Zorc 76), Sammer, Riedle.
Ajax: Van der Sar, Reiziger (Scholten 84), Davids, Blind, Silooy, George, Wooter (Musampa 46), R de Boer, Bogarde, Kanu, Kluivert.
Davids and Kluivert scored for Ajax.
I find that Ajax haven't been overwhelmingly convincing in the league so far this season, its not unusual but our squad definitely seems weaker so far which is in no doubt thanks to losing Vertonghen, Anita and Van Der Wiel to bigger clubs. However European matches are something else and even with a slightly weakened side last season a victory away from home against United was grabbed so surprises could be.
I'm thinking a 2-2 draw. Eriksen to definitely get an assist.
