Not a huge surprise.Tottenham captain Ledley King has announced his retirement from football because of injury.
King has battled with a long-term knee problem for many years, with the defender unable to take part in full training.
The 31-year-old England international still managed to play more than 300 games for Spurs since making his debut in 1999.
But the problem has restricted King to just 21 Premier League appearances in the past two seasons and he has finally succumbed to early retirement.
King, who played 21 times for England between 2002 and 2010, will continue his involvement with Spurs as a club ambassador in recognition of his contribution at White Hart Lane.

Ledley. When fit, better than Terry??
I consistently read stuff like this whether it's about Terry or Ferdinand. He's an (Or was I should say) above average defender, that's it.

That is true, but Kaboul has improved immensely recently, and you can't forget Dawson is basically a fitter King (besides that long term injury). Plus if Vertonghen is as good as they say, I'd say we're in pretty good nick.

Re: Ledley King retires.
I agree, people kept calling him the best English defender, "when fit", but when he was able to string some appearances together last season his deficits showed. There was an impressive streak though, something like 12 wins for Spurs in a row with him starting, don't quite remember.Theo Filippo wrote:The most overrated defender of his generation.
