It's going okay mate. Been doing it for around 6 months now, getting more confident in the role, learning more and more etc. Still plenty to learn and plenty to improve upon, but it's all a process. I think I'm going to start getting involved with the seniors too, when pre-season training starts on Monday evening.

I work with under-11's. A good place to start, I think anyway. What age group(s) do you work with?

Blackburn play a friendly away at Cork City, a 4 1/2 hour car journey away. Would it be worth going too? Hmm..

Ah, that's cool.
Do you get your teams to do beep tests? I've known people to get 15 in it as 16 year olds. I know that the England cricket team requries everyone to get above 15 to play for them. I have checked and according to a few sites Wes Hoolahan has completed the beep test twice, getting to level 21.
Pretty useful site on which level children should be averaging: http://www.topendsports.com/testing/tests/20mshuttle.htm

Yep, between 5-11 for me. I coach all sorts though, football, badminton, basketball, dodgeball etc. I have coached kids between 14-16 in the gym too.Mr. Hassard wrote:Eternal Witcher wrote:I still think of you as Maradona.

I haven't got my youth team to do a bleep test as such, but the coaches and I have put them through fitness drills along with technical and tactical drills. But I'm fairly sure at seniors pre-season training on Monday night fitness will be done as no doubt people haven't played too much since the end of April/start of May and I can guarantee you plenty of alcohol has been consumed.

Fitness testing is great fun, if your administering it, not doing it
Bleep test sucks though.

Ah right, very good. It's not as bad, coaching people at that age, as you are just teaching them the basics and you just want them to have fun.

Yeah I agree. It's great to see them having fun. If I were to make a career out of coaching, I'd have to be coaching teens or adults though. Kids just don't listen half the timeMr. Hassard wrote:ayvee1 wrote:Yep, between 5-11 for me. Yeah I'd be the same, I want to progress into coaching older people, but I think starting with a young age group is the perfect place to start. Kids really don't listen though sometimes, there have been a few very stressful training sessions, believe me.

Well, there's no need for a bigoted hatred of somebody based over a football rivalry.

I shall be at my towns 12th July celebrations. I just go for the atmosphere and to socialise with friends. It's a good day out, but I don't agree with any violence or anything that goes on at them, no sense to it. Although that mainly happens in Belfast, down here there's never much bother.

I'm not, but my father has family connections up in the Coleraine area, so that's where us supporting Coleraine originated from.
