It's not a very popular genre in the west because of it's sometimes punishing difficulty and slow gameplay. It's perfect for a patient and analytical person like me though.

It's a rare genre. Fire Emblem, Ogre Tactics and Final Fantasy Tactics is the only series I can think of to be fair, and they are mostly for consoles or gameboy. I mean, you could play them on PC, but you'd need to get an Emulator and download the ROMS or ISOS.

Oh and this which I just stumbled across:

    Edit2:

Actually, Jagged Alliance and XCOM fit the bill quite nicely.

Yeah, those are the more popular series. Have played them all. Laughing

Started playing Silent Storm recently. It's not the grid style I like but it's still pretty cool. It's more like in the Action Points mold.

Wish they made more of these. Cry

They make a lot of these in Japan but since I can't read or write Japanese it's not much help.

One day I think I'm going to learn just so I can play these games.

I get bored of them way too quickly, played Fire Emblem and you know it's is fun and all, but it takes me like 5 hours to complete the games, with 3-3.5 of those hours basically consisting of pressing a button to go through the endless text and dialogue that makes no sense what so ever.

There's just way too much filler.

Yeah, they are definitely time consuming. But like I said, I'm incredibly patient so they work for me.

There are a few in Playstation but since I don't have that console and I can never get the games to work on my pc(emulators never work for me, at least not the PlayStation ones)I've never played them.

Che, you could try Lost Odyssey, it's an rpg on Xbox that is absolutely fantastic. The story is brilliant and it features the old turn based combat from games like Final Fantasy X.

You mean Rome Total War II? I just have this feeling that it will be as disappointing as all the other titles before it. It's usually the exact same game, only with improved graphics and a slightly different, often fairly disappointing, combat engine changes. Don't get me wrong, I quite like Total War, but it's all very much the same without too much being changed, and the games seem to get shorter as well.

I've actually been contemplating buying that. Although I'm not a fan of over the top JRPG's like that where all the male characters can pass off for women. Joking aside I've looked at a few videos and I'm not sure it's what I'm looking for.

If I was in the mood for an RPG of that type I'd jump all over it though.

I'm talking a game more like this.

When I bought my first xbox I wanted this game so bad when I played the demo, but then seeing all the awful awful reviews has kept me from ever buying it.

It's like 9 bucks now so maybe I'll buy it one day.

Yeah same, although I remember one part of the game where there was a train crash with like half hour long cut scenes that was really really tedious. Haha she did Laughing

I'd be happy to pay up even if it's just a graphical upgrade. I loved rewriting history by conquering Rome with Carthage.

The thing is though, I already have Rome Total War. It's a great game in its own right, and if RTII it's going to be a simple graphic update with a significantly shorter gameplay sequence, then I'm not really interested. If it actually has some historical campaigns, maybe with a proper "storyline" and I use that term lightly, that would be another story.

Campaigns would be a decent addition. Pretty sure there was never a Hannibal in the first game.

I managed it without tremendous difficulty, so you should be fine. Just use humanity and invite other players if some bosses get too hard.
