Williams sisters with 10 years worth of Wimbledon titles. Impressive.

I went on to Serena's wikipedia there, and it's been updated already to include this win, some people are pretty sad Laughing

Well she is. The reason nobody's heard of any of the other players is because lazy part-time tennis player/full-time Kardashian bummer Serena Williams only turns up for the slams and since hardly any of the other players are bodybuilders, Serena just strolls in and wins. Nobody can make a name for themselves amongst the casual fans, and casual fans don't want to see the same people winning every time either. Thus, they lose interest...that's if they had any interest to begin with.

Exactly. And, as sad as it is, the grand slams will always be what's important.

Put it this way, if Sharapova never won any of her slams or if Ivanovic never won the French Open a few years ago, hardly anyone would know who they are. Kournikova is the only real exception to the rule.

The same excitement and anticipation just isn't there for something like the Madrid Masters. Grand Slam events are special enough to draw the casual fans in (like myself, I'll admit) and Wimbledon is at the peak of it all.

Hardly, only if they are pretending to be experts on the subject. I just can't get behind watching Tennis especially men's matches they are so long. I played about 10 years ago but even then i got bored :s Not difficult for me to admit i only watch Tennis because of "Danish" players.

Tbf, unless you've got Sky/Eurosport there's hardly any tennis to watch, a la me.

In that situation though I don't get why you'd just watch Wimbledon, when the ATP Finals is on BBC, and now ITV have Roland Garros.

Even BBC show the later stages of the Aussie. alee2

5 set men's matches do take the piss now. All the surfaces are so slow, you just get endless rallies and 6 hour matches. It's not fun to watch.

2-1 for Fredrik and Jonathan, Fredrik has a wrist injury but his forehand returns have been great. The other pair have been runners-up twice and it looks like its a curse for them!

Wimbledon is the only big tournament i can see on the TV package i have in my home, the only others i can think of is the WTA dedicated to Wozniacki in Farum.

I get what you're saying though. Plus, I live in the U.S. so the Williams sister bumming has never really died out, although I'm actually glad that she won today. She's been through a lot, but now she can piss off and let my girl Azarenka get the spotlight in future tournaments. The tennis thread. - Page 26 279869
