Perhaps I should make a Ekstraklasa (Best League) thread. Perhaps if our fallen hero sees this he might get mad enough to return.

Atalanta and newly promoted Pescara have both been docked two points for the 2012-13 Serie A season by the Disciplinary Committee of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) following the "Last Bet" investigation into match-fixing.

Relegated Novara will start their first season back in Serie B with a four-point penalty, with Reggina also beginning the season on the same deduction.

In total, 72 rulings were made relating to the investigation, which focused on 33 Serie B and Coppa Italia games over the past two seasons, with many clubs fined and some people banned from football activities.

Atalanta, who finished 12th last season, have also been fined €25,000. Novara will also have to pay out €35,000 while Serie A clubs Siena and Sampdoria have both been fined €50,000.

    Other penalties include:

Banned for five years: Former Inter Milan, Parma, Roma and Ternana defender Luigi Sartor; Piacenza's Mario Cassano; Ravenna's Alessandro Zamperini and Nicola Santoni

Banned for two years: Ex-AC Milan midfielder Tomas Locatelli; former Atalanta captain Cristiano Doni

Suspended ban for three years: Former Fiorentina midfielder Alberto Santana

Suspended ban for six months: Ex-Inter Milan and Torino striker Nicola Ventola

The investigation is ongoing and more punishments are expected in the coming months.

This is a small deduction but you never know if more might be coming around. This bit of corruption does not seem severe enough to cause any relegations.

hahaha watching Poland in the Euro reminded me of Polska so much, and they weren't half bad. I never would've known who most of them were if it wasn't for that guy

most of polska's rantings and his edited FM database led me to believe poland was exceptionally better than they actually are lol. with my knowledge of polish football mostly based upon polska's rantings, i honestly thought poland would've topped their table

I think even though they got eliminated, Poland had more quality then Greece or Czech Republic, the 3 Dortmund players and Obraniak especially. Just another case of the best teams not always winning.

Reports that Rafael Benitez could take charge of newly promoted Serie A side Sampdoria persist despite his agent's denial.

GettyImagesRafael Benitez lasted just half a season at Inter

Giuseppe Iachini, who led the club to promotion at the first attempt, is seemingly set to lose his job, and Benitez, who has been out of work since being sacked as Inter Milan boss in December 2010, has been linked with the position in the Italian press.

His agent, Manuel Garcia Quilon, dismissed the speculation. "There is nothing with Sampdoria. Nothing at all - 100%," he said. "I repeat: there's no chance. Benitez is currently in England, and his intention is to coach in the Premier League."

However, sporting director Pasquale Sensibile met an associate of Benitez in London earlier this week and said on Tuesday: "We have to wait a couple of days. For now it is only an idea, although it is a nice idea. The meeting with this person was a way to understand if this idea and this dream can become a reality.

"We have some more hope. I am moderately optimistic because I have noted that many ideas are similar, but right now the deal has not yet started."

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, who led Samp from 1992 to 1997, feels Benitez would be a fine appointment. "He's the right man to take my old team to the top," Eriksson said. "That a good thing because Sampdoria should always be contenders."

This would make a very interesting move.
