England-based defender Adam El-Abd will not be making his competitive international debut in the near future as he is still ineligible to play for Egypt.
El-Abd - who was born in Brighton, England - has been called up by Egypt for the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Mozambique on June 1.
However, the 28-year-old is forced to pull out of the Pharaohs squad as he has yet to be granted Egyptian citizenship.
“El-Abd will not be able to play in our upcoming matches because the paperwork of his nationality is yet to be completed,” Egypt team manager Samir Adli told FilGoal.com.
“These procedures need at least a month to be completed, but we will take advantage of his presence in Cairo to finish it.”
El-Abd, who has been playing for Brighton and Hove Albion since 2003, expressed his delight after receiving his first-ever international call-up this month.
He will now miss Egypt's next four games in the 2014 World Cup and CAN 2013 qualifiers, which all take place in June.
