Basically, but I still think Rooney should play as the main striker so you could play a proper attacking midfielder behind him.kyro7 wrote:We've basically been playing 4231 with Rooney behind Welbeck?Gegilworld93 wrote:
Fair enough, you should switch to 4-2-3-1 anyway next season, 4-4-2 is outdated

Rooney's at his best when he's behind a striker, why would we do that?

Because Rooney is better than Welbeck in the front ST role.Danny wrote:Rooney's at his best when he's behind a striker, why would we do that?

So let's drop Welbeck then after he's had a good season and deserves to keep his place? Seems fair.

I thought Kagawa can play on the wing as well

That's good too. Let's buy a midfielder who can play on the wing when we already have Valencia, Nani, Young, Park and Giggs.
Guest- Guest
Yeah he can, but he's better in the middle. Last season and before Gotze got injured he was in the middle switching with Gotze and at the Emirates he was occupying the wing in the 2nd half where their goal came from. I hope you lot get Hazard instead so Kagawa comes here

While it's good Kagawa is an option out wide, is that really a reason to sign him over another midfielder as good as him when we've already got enough players on the wing?

Re: Manchester United FC Official Thread
No, but if he is on par with other central midfielders and he has the bonus of being able to play out wide, then he is obviously the better option. It is not as if he is an out and out winger, either.Danny wrote:No it's not.Glen Damon wrote:What an absolutely idiotic comment.

If we rely on players like Welbeck as bona fide first teamers we will never be the best side in the world, regardless of what they "deserve". Welbeck's future has to be as a substitute if we're to reach that level again.

12 goals in 40 appearances is NOT good enough for a starting XI place, at least not if we want to get anywhere near our previous heights. The only reason Danny is starting is because Chicharito has played worse, and Berbatov can't hardly buy a start.
If we want to be up there with Barcelona and Real Madrid, Welbeck cannot start. Barca don't start Bojan (when he was there) and Real don't start Callejon. Maybe in the future, but not now. That is why I am in favor of a 4-5-1 with 1 striker, being Rooney. Too often this season we have started a 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2. Get Kagawa in that AMC role, possibly Modric as well as a CM and we are pretty much set for the next season, provided Vidic doesn't contract a 8 month injury 5 games into the season.
I see our starting line up (if we nab Kagawa + Modric) as:
-----Rooney-----
Young-Kagawa-Nani/Valencia
---Modric---Scholes/Carrick---
Evra--Vidic--Evans--Rafael/Jones

Re: Manchester United FC Official Thread
Manchester United have been put on alert after Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar put contract talks on hold.
The Mirror are reporting that Sir Alex Ferguson is one of those interested in the prolific Dutchman and could be tempted to test the Bundesliga side’s resolve.
Huntelaar has decided to halt contract talks until after Euro 2012, which could put his price up with a good performance and Schalke have reportedly already offered him a huge pay increase.
The former Real Madrid and AC Milan striker’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2013 and the Old Trafford club may look to exploit the situation with a summer bid.
Ferguson will be looking for another striker at the end of the season, after it emerged that Dimitar Berbatov would be allowed to leave the Red Devils.
I know this article is already a month old, but he would be a dream signing. 48 goals in 47 games this season is absolutely out of this world. Mario Gomez can't even touch that stat, despite having a MUCH better supporting cast.

But Huntelaar has barely had a chance to prove himself in the CL.
Also, Huntelaar has done it at international level for the Netherlands

RVP was a flop in his first few years at Arsenal. Contrary to your boundless knowledge, players change.

Possibly, but how do you score 50 goals in one season for a team not even in the Champions League, and not get bought by a major club?

It's not as if goalscoring is a flaw of ours anyway, we need a striker that knows he will be the 4th choice striker

Well, I just wish we didn't constantly scrape results like the 1-0 vs Sunderland...
I think we easily could be scoring more goals. Maybe that's also because we don't have a creative midfielder in the team.

The 1-0 against Sunderland was a game in where we were nervous as fuck in the second half, we were extremely unlucky not to score more in the first.

163 - Antonio Valencia delivered assists more regularly than any other player in the 2011-12 PL - on average every 163 minutes. Provider.
