he would have cost more points then gained thats for sure

at the end of the day we scored more goals and got more points then we did in the last 2 years and in 4 of the last 5 years..

A much more relevant statistic for a defensive player is the fact that we conceded more than we did in 4 of O'Shea last 5 seasons, and went out of the Champions League due to completely ridiculous defending and a lack of defensive midfielders to close out a game. We lost the title because of ridiculous defensive displays and a piss-poor midfield as well. We seldom conceded 4 goals at Old Trafford when we had O'Shea, and we never conceded 6.

And if he would cost more than he gained, why did Ferguson keep him around for so long?

because he wasnt always as shit as he has been. and yes we conceded more but we have more points!!!! Laughing facepalm

not to mention he has been injured most of this season and has been shit for sunderland anyway so.. you have nothing to go on except your imagination

Oliver Norwood's confirmed on Twitter he's leaving United.

@ONorwood: “@JoeyTmufc: @ONorwood Are you signing a new deal at Utd mate?” no I am leaving

@ONorwood: Seeing as every1 so interested as to why I'm leaving united I want to play every week like I was this season in championship #beingrealistic

@ONorwood: @BarakStatic I'm 21 there 19(Will and Michael Keane) don't want to play reserves anymore after playin 18 games in championship n doing well.

Apparently told the club 2 months ago.

Someone gave him a bit of grief for "announcing it" on twitter, but he said he'd already told United. Razz

The Premier League's list of retained players say we've offered contracts to Pogba, Fryers, Petrucci, and a few other reserves.

His overall game is awful. Good scorer usually though, but one outfield goal at Old Trafford last season might be a bit of a worry.

Hopefully he's better next season after he has a proper break. lool

even his finishing was shit. he missed so many chances against newcastle at OT and we ended up drawing 1-1, eventhough we were robbed (and he scored in that game lol very lucky though)

Yeah, but Welbeck got the nod most of the time last season because he's a much better all round player and we payed better football with him in rather than Hernandez.

He was average last season, too many games were he went unnoticed. But in his defence he had the Gold cup in the summer so he hasn't had a proper rest. Thankfully though he will have one this summer and if he can have a good pre-season he can be scoring more frequently.

I hope not. If players like Welbeck and Chicharito are the future of Manchester United then the future for Manchester United is fighting for 4th position and the odd cup run.

You should have a scan on that piece of shit in your skull that you call a brain. Those two seasons are in the past, I am talking about the future, in competition with a rejuvenated Chelsea and the new Champions, Manchester City. If we rely on players like Welbeck and Chicharito to match up with Hazard and Aguero we are going to be hopelessly outmatched, and if we play with those two we're going to continue to get fucking raped in the midfield area.

Although I'm inclined to agree with you, I would personally consider Welbeck and Chicharito as quite excellent strikers who certainly improve our team. They are both fairly young and fairly promising strikers, who have a lot of untapped potential which could lead them both to becoming very impressive players in the not so distant future, that is especially true for Danny Welbeck.

As for your second point. As long as we have Wayne Rooney, there's not too much to be worried about there. He's shown for several seasons now that he's a class player who can carry the team exceptionally well. It would of course be great to have another striker akin to Rooney, however there really aren't that many players on his level available is there? Besides, I think you too would agree that at the moment improving our attack is second to improving our midfield, as that really needs to be sorted out as soon as possible.

I do fear that if we lost Rooney, or for some incredibly misguided and retarded reason sold him, we would be pretty much fucked, both in attack and in midfield, he's done wonders to cover up the cracks of this team.

They're one in the same, buy midfielders and switch to 4-3-3 and both the attack and the midfield are excellent. Unfortunately Ferguson isn't going to do that because he's already got at least 6 central midfielders and he's got faith in all of them for different reasons, and he has a dogmatic obsession with 4-4-2, playing it against Barcelona twice.

I actually think 6 midfielders is a bit of an understatement, if we get Kagawa then Park sure as fucking isn't going to be getting any games on the wing, so you'd have to expect his main position to be central midfield from next season onwards, if we get a proper midfielder, what the fuck are we going to do with him? Phil Jones isn't our best young defender in any position either, so he might end up there as well.

And yes, Rooney is essential. It still amazes me that people wanted him sold 18 months ago.

That story is probably apocryphal. Only an idiot would fail to recognise Scholes' talent, and Ferguson is not an idiot.

Wouldn't be surprised if it has some truth to it.

Gary Neville says in his book that Scholes wasn't obviously brilliant at a young age (unlike Giggs for example), I'm sure others have said it too.
