No offence but, thinking that is a bit stupid.
It's the London Games....there has been lots of media talk and releases about top footballers who want to play.

So....apparently Carrick hasn't retired, he just doesn't want to sit on the subs bench
Fair point, I guess....but I would've thought that he would get games.

Yes, yes it is. Also, he hasn't played in the qualifiers or any friendlies, so guaranteeing inclusion into the tournament probably isn't the best thing to be doing.
I really think Holt deserves to be given a try, Hes scored like 15 goals this season, hes been in good form and Carrolls been shit, England need to start playing more plays form lower teams and give them a try.
Thrusting inexperienced, and not to mention relatively old players, into a Euro squad would be silly. You have no idea how they will play in the team, how they will blend with the squad, or if they are mentally or technically ready for international football. Better to go with what you know than to take a risk on a player who probably doesn't even have a future in the national team. If he was 18-20 then maybe there would have been a point in bringing him to gain some experience, as he could be important in the future. (Read Oxlade Chamberlain).

Well I didn't actually think that but people tend not to treat the Olympics seriously. Any clue who your 3 seniors will be?Lux wrote:Jorlung wrote:I'm not stupid lol, was just wondering if you guys were actually going to send your serious line-up (ie. best possible outside Euros) and not just a bunch of random League 1 and Championship players.

Likes of Beckham and Giggs are constantly mentioned, more so Beckham.
Giggs has permission from United too, only United player that does.

Yeah I heard of Beckham and Giggs. I thought they decided it was only going to be English though or am I just making shit up? If so could Ramsey and Bale technically go if their clubs let them?

Re: Euro 2012 Squads
Barcelona have confirmed that David Villa will not be going to Euro 2012 with Spain after losing his battle for fitness following a broken leg.
The striker's inclusion in Vicente del Bosque's final 23-man squad has been in doubt since he fractured his tibia during the Blaugrana's Club World Cup semi-final win over Al-Sadd in December.
However, the former Valencia man had returned to training in the past month and after stepping up his rehabilitation, the 30-year-old had been hoping to feature in the Copa del Rey final versus Athletic Bilbao on May 25.
Following further analysis of the forward's condition, Barcelona team doctor Ricard Pruna and his medical team have advised that Villa should not be selected for Spain ahead of the European Championship in June.
Taking to Twitter to reveal the news to his fans, Villa wrote: "I tried until the very end but I wouldn't be able to be at 100 per cent for the Euros. I called the national team manager to tell him, it was the honest thing to do."
"Thank you all for your support. I will keep on working to be back and play with Barca and the national team as soon as possible."
The news will come as a big blow for supporters of La Furia Roja who believed the attacker would be added to Spain's squad after Barcelona's cup final on Friday.
Villa is Spain's all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in 82 appearances, with the Langreo native winning the Golden Boot when the Iberian nation won the European Championship four years ago.

He's only in as cover with the Chelsea players and Rooney not with the squad yet.
God knows why Richards wasn't called up originally. Must have done seething bad in a previous life.

Re: Euro 2012 Squads
What Danny said, he didn't play the last few matches in the league because Zabaleta was in good form. There was no reason not to pick him since he was the league's best RB over the course of the season.

Yeah, Zabaletta was playing well and Mancini didn't feel the need to change the starting XI in the last 4 or 5 games.

The likelihood of Cahill starting will have increased with Chelsea's triumph in Munich. If he doesn't partner Lescott, then it's almost certain that he'll play alongside the experienced John Terry.

John Ruddy is out of the euros with a broken finger. Therefore, Jack Butland who played 23 games for Cheltenham this season in League 2 has been called up in his place.
I see our amazing coaching of the lad has paid off
