    McLeish in Villa talks

Villa hierarchy could be ready to wield the axe

Alex McLeish is locked in talks with Aston Villa, amid claims he could be set to lose his job with the Premier League side.

Sky Sports understands that McLeish is meeting with Villa's hierarchy - owner Randy Lerner and chief executive Paul Faulkner.

And local sources are claiming that McLeish's tenure, which began in controversial circumstances last summer, will be brought to an end.

The Birmingham Mail goes as far as to say they expect the Scot to be relieved of his job on Monday

McLeish was appointed manager of Villa, succeeding Gerard Houllier, just weeks after he had quit as boss of their local rivals Birmingham City - who had just been relegated.

His appointment was met with anger by some sections of the Villa fan-base and he has never been able to win them over.

McLeish has also been unable to get the best out of Villa, as they only escaped relegation by two points in finishing a lowly 16th.

    He is an absolute disgrace.

Now just for Faulkner to go. Heard Lambert will come in, and a few of my mates have said they have heard McLeish could end up at Albion. rofl

My dad also told me that Damien Commoli (sp?) was at Villa Park against Tottenham and he could replace Faulkner.

To be honest, with the squad you have, keeping you up was a good achievement, especially with all the injuries you had.

"Kept them up" is one way of looking at it. "Almost got them relegated" is another. Aston Villa should not be flirting with relegation.

Carlos, just look at your starting 11, it's a bottom half team, your bench is full of youngsters most of the time, hardly McLeish's fault

He never got the right money, and he's bought you in some quality players i.e. N'Zogbia, Given, Hutton, Keane (loan) etc. So don't try and blame him, it's the players fault.

This is a good thing from what I'm told. I have a friend who supports Aston Villa, he tells me that they actually started 7 or 8 natural defenders in a game once, I'm not sure if that's true though.

Our squad is a lot better than most of the teams that finished above us.

    On paper.

Supposedly Martinez is a front runner, but I doubt he'd leave a club of Wigan's stature for Aston Villa.

Still don't think that he'd leave tbh, Lambert is also linked. But I doubt he's leave either.

People have said this to me at school, but I don't see how either of those would think that they can achieve more at Norwich and Wigan than at Villa?

Also Houghton and Benitez are the next two at 8/1 and 10/1 respectively I think.

Norwich established themselves this season, finishing miles ahead of Villa. Why would they leave?

Because we can achieve more, I'd say *on paper* our squad is better than Norwich's, we would have more funds available, we are a more well known team. I don't think it's much of a step down, on current form of both teams, yes, overall no.

Maybe someone like David Moyes is well out of consideration due to the fact that Everton are a consistent premier league club.

I see no reason as to why Martinez would rather stay at Wigan over us though!

Lambert can become legend at Norwich, he's already done some great things there.

You mean like Martinez did last year? scratch
