I wouldn't really class Scholes as a 'free signing'. Effectively he is but he was a United player before he retired so it doesn't count.

If Nasri's contract expired at Arsenal and then he signed with them again anyway, it wouldn't have been a free signing, would it?

It's different though, because Scholes retired, then Fergie decided to sign him and bring him out of retirement, and that great move alone should allow it to be named in here as a great free signing, as it didn't cost. Why are you trying to be so technical to move this signing aside? It was a good free signing.

I'm not being technical, it just doesn't really seem like a signing, more just a delayed renewal. It was a great decision to bring him out of retirement, but the same thing could have been accomplished by just getting him to sign again as usual. I just feel including this is just like including a contract renewal.
