Alan Thompson: Beram is available for action
By: Joe Sullivan on 27 Apr, 2012 16:01
MIDFIELDER Beram Kayal could be back in the running to make an appearance in this weekend’s derby match following a quick-fire return from injury.
Ironically, it was in the last derby meeting at Celtic Park in which the Israeli internationalist received the injury which has kept him on the sidelines since then.
However, coach Alan Thompson has been delighted with Kayal’s rehabilitation and the player is now close to a return despite an injury which was expected to keep him out for the rest of the season.
Thompson said: “He’s worked hard and I think he’s been one of those players that the physios have enjoyed working with.
“Everything he’s been asked to do, he’s gone about doing and that’s why he’s come back fairly early from the injury he had.
“We’re thinking about having him in the squad. We had a tough session this morning and we’ll see how he reacts tomorrow before we decide that.”
On the other injury fronts, he added: “Most people are fit really. Beram’s back in the squad as he’s trained for a couple of weeks now so he’s in the running but, obviously James Forrest isn’t and Mo Bangura is back training so we’ve got a decent pool to pick from.”
Among those in that pool is teenager Tony Watt who came on as a sub last week at Fir Park and transformed Celtic’s fortunes in the game by scoring the first two goals in the Hoops’ 3-0 win over Motherwell.
The coach said: “Tony is a player who will possible get stripped on Sunday although I don’t think he’ll start the game.
“He did fantastically last week but this is a big game for us and one that we’re looking forward to but I’m sure that at some stage the lad might play a part.”
He did hint, however, that with three further games still to play after the derby that there could be more openings for fringe players in the run-in.
He said: “One or two of them have got the Euros to look forward to so we’ll try and protect them a little bit, maybe give them an extra couple of weeks’ break before they go and get involved in the Euros to freshen them up. That’ll give us the chance to look at other people as well.”
One player who definitely won’t be involved, though, is South Koran internationalist Ki Sung Yueng whose came off at Fir Park last Sunday.
Thompson said: “Ki’s gone home for a week or two just for a break after his hamstring injury at Motherwell last week.”
He added: “It’s a big game for us, it’s a derby and after that we have three league games left, two at home and one away, and in one of those we can look forward to picking up the trophy.
“This is a real big game as we haven’t any cup finals to look forward to now, so this is probably the biggest game out of the four we have got left by some way.
“Rangers are 2-1 up on us at the moment in terms of the three derby games we’ve had in the league so we’d be looking to make amends come Sunday.”

Same thing you said last time, stop undermining your squad.
In administration yet you haven't made any redundancies to your players, only Mervan Celik and the Matt McKay have left, voluntarily as well. Correct me if I'm wrong

Gregg Wylde.
What's going on behind the scenes is more than you could possible imagine.

So you basically have the same starting eleven as you did before you went into administration*
*cheating

After what they did last time, it's not allowed.
