I really recommend you just try and read a lot of the articles on that wiki if you want to understand the game more (obviously) but you won't get bored reading them, I get lost in that wiki for hours at times.

I would rather you not go to said dance. However, if you do end up going as a result of conformity and being easily manipulated by females, then I suggest that you attend in fashion that you deem comfortable.
