Define better?
The team that is better in a game of football comes out on top at the end, right? Style of play does not win you any points, only the final result.
If people want to believe that keeping the ball and nearly scoring gives you the right to think you're better than a team who scored more than you and held out...then that's up to you. But for me it's bullshit.

Chelsea had 4 attempts 1 on target. Barcelona had 24 attempts, 6 on target, 11 blocked. It's not just about the possession and passing, it is about the chances Barcelona created. They hit the woodwork twice too which counts as off target.
Arsenal won at Anfield and we didn't deserve to win...

I'm not denying any of that. But what you have to decide is....who's fault is it that Barcelona didn't win? If you put it down to Chelsea, then there's no way you can say you've been better. If it's your own fault...then how can you complain? If it's the officials then maybe.

Chelsea were lucky, Barcelona deserved to win.. It's pretty easy to understand.

Barca didn't "deserve" to win. They were clearly better but they didn't finish their chances. They have nobody to blame but themselves for that. Chelsea was lucky that Barca had a poor night in front of the net.

I just don't like using the word "luck" when teams deserve the win. Just comes across as bitter and doesn't give the credit that the winning team earned.

Chelsea deserved there win, but luck helped then.

I don't like using the word "deserve" either. The team that scores the most goals is the one that deserves to win. If a team had a goal robbed of them by a referee's error, for example, then you can say that team "deserved" the goal and if there were enough of them make up the goal difference, then you can say they "deserved to win." Otherwise, you only deserve what you earn.

You know who was great? Gary Cahill. He isn't get enough recognition at the moment. The man stopped Messi from getting to goal 5 times, that is very very well done.

Well I agree with that too. But that's why I like the word deserve
Under normal circumstances, I think that a team deserves the result it gets. But if there is some 3rd party influence e.g. officials, then like you said...I think there is controversy and the result/who deserved to win is debatable.
I dunno, I've seen quite a lot of people who said that Cahill played well yesterday. I can think of a few performances where he has been Chelsea's best player for sure. Definitely found his feet under Matteo. Obviously, it takes some time to get full recognition.

Cahil stopped Messi so many times I half expect Real Madrid to come knocking in the summer
In all seriousness though, he was great. Terry wasn't really all that good at all, I thought he was wasteful to be honest. But then again I don't really like Terry so I might be biased.

I really don't see why kyro is so bitter about us winning though.
Fair enough if you think we didn't deserve to win, but you're acting way over the top.

Everyone gets carved open by Barca and to not play 10 men behind the ball would be moronic. You seem very very mad and bitter that Chelsea won from your posts in this thread which surprises me because you won £40.kyro7 wrote:So we can both agree Chelsea got lucky that Barca wasted chances and despite sticking 10 behind the ball they got carved open.Lux wrote:

I'm not mad and bitter, I just don't get the credit Chelsea are getting, they didn't stop Barca from scoring, Barca stopped themselves, on another day they'd have been pasted and Arsenal put up a better fight at home and got slated for being outplayed. I can still have an opinion on a team if I won money so what does that have to do with it?Chris wrote:Everyone gets carved open by Barca and to not play 10 men behind the ball would be moronic. What point are you trying to make in your post other than feeling the need to reply to me because I'm having a go at Chelsea? In your post you didn't really make any point, you said everyone gets carved open by Barca, Chelsea no different just lucky, and I'm not surprised they stuck 10 behind the ball, but it still didn't work, other than that you refer to me winning money on it which is there whether I have a go at Chelsea or give them credit.
Of course they got the win but I'd expect a much better defensive display from 10 defenders.

Because of mugs that are saying Chelsea defended amazing etc, it's not just this forum but Chelsea's performance was average and they got luck, so I find it annoying, I'm not exactly bitter but it doesn't please me, I don't like Chelsea.luke. wrote:I really don't see why kyro is so bitter about us winning though.

You're talking as if Barcelona won, fact is they didn't score a goal and lost 1-0.

You're such a simplistic moron, them not scoring was not down to Chelsea defending well, jesus I can't discuss this with you so say what you want I'm not getting into this.Chris wrote:It didn't work? Yeah, but Barcelona's inability to score was not due to Chelsea's defense. It was Barcelona's fault. The point Kyro is trying to make is that a team with 10 defenders still managed to get carved up and Barcelona could have scored 4 goals if they had their shooting boots on. People are giving Chelsea credit for stopping Barcelona from scoring when really they didn't do much to stop them. Barcelona stopped themselves.

Barca may have been the team that looked like it was attacking, but only one team scored and it wasn't them. Sure Barca missed a few, but can't discredit Chelsea for playing a solid game, they did enough to pull off a win and that's what's most important. People can use statistics all they want, at the end of the day you can have 95% possession and it won't matter because you lost the game.

Like I've said before, Chelsea did the best they could and got away with a win. Barcelona were by far the better team, as expected, and wasted their chances. Chelsea deserve credit for taking their chances, but they have been getting too much credit for stopping Barcelona. Honestly, they did very little to stop Barcelona.
Guest- Guest
You seem to underestimate the inherent fighting spirit of the English. In case you didn't notice, Gary "Gaz" Cahill absolutely put Lionel Messi to shame. He and Terry through their bodies about, blocking shot after shot and showing that Great Britain, for all its faults, still possess a few Bravehearts.ahlycotc wrote:Like I've said before, Chelsea did the best they could and got away with a win. It annoys me that John Terry and Garry Cahill are receiving credit for their performances. Four central midfielders all playing really deep right in front of them and they still managed to let Barcelona carve them open several times.

And spilled the ball directly to Cesc Fabregas who was placed five yards from goal and should have done a lot better. Nah, he wasn't that great either.
