@Eternal: The point about the beard is unassailable.

The opening paragraph of Hector's "The Iliad" is one of the best in literature in my opinion.

Sing, goddess, the anger of Peleus’ son Achilleus
and its devastation, which put pains thousandfold upon the Achaians,
hurled in their multitudes to the house of Hades strong souls
of heroes, but gave their bodies to be the delicate feasting
of dogs, of all birds, and the will of Zeus was accomplished
since that time when first there stood in division of conflict
Atreus’ son the lord of men and brilliant Achilleus

Dan Simmon's opens his book, "Ilium" on a similar note:

Sing, O Muse, of the rage of Achilles, of Peleus’ son, murderous, man-killer, fated to die, sing of the rage that cost the Achaeans so many good men and sent so many vital, hearty souls down to the dreary House of Death. And while you’re at it, Muse, sing of the rage of the gods themselves, so petulant and so powerful here on their new Olympos, and of the rage of the post-humans, dead and gone though they might be, and of the rage of those few true humans left, self-absorbed and useless though they have become. While you are singing, O Muse, sing also of the rage of those thoughtful, sentient, serious but not-so-close-to-human beings out there dreaming under the ice of Europa, dying in the sulfur ash of Io, and being born in the cold folds of Ganymede.

Oh, and sing of me, O Muse, poor born-against-his-will Hockenberry, dead Thomas Hockenberry, Ph.D., Hockenbush to his friends, to friends long since turned to dust on a world long since left behind. Sing of my rage, yes, of my rage, O Muse, small and insignificant though that rage might be when measured against the anger of the immortal gods, or when compared to the wrath of the god-killer Achilles.

On second though, O Muse, sing nothing of me. I know you. I have been bound and servant to you, O Muse, you incomparable bitch. And I do not trust you, O Muse. Not one little bit.

That bolded part had me cracking up.

I think one of the most under-rated heroes from the entire Trojan War was Aeneas. What a bad-ass.

Anyway, Achillese was the greatest warrior of all time. Greek mythology says Hercules but he was a demi-god so that's clearly cheating.

Boromir floats in his boat down the Anduin, out to sea, gets washed up outside Troy where Hector revives him. Once Achilles is about to finish Hector, Boromir challenges him in a fit of rage and slices his head off. Fuck his heel, can't get anywhere without a head.

    It's perfect!

Achilles' mother was a nymph, so technically that makes him a type of demi-god as well.

Achilles was touched by the Gods, so that's clearly cheating dammit. Give it to Perseus. Although I think he's related to a God as well.

My memory fails me sometimes. I was trying to remember who Aeneas was. Had to check wiki to remember he was supposedly one of the ancestors of Rome. At least some of Troy still lived on. Also looking at the amount of times Gods came to his rescue, makes me realise how the film ignores most of the divine intervention. Wasn't the Achilles Hector confrontation full of Apollo and someone blowing spears away?

Yeah, they pretty much let all of that out. A lot of The Iliad is gods plotting when they could support their side. In fact, it was Apollo who guided Paris' hand when he fired the arrow into Achilles' heel.

I really dislike physics. I got lucky with that exam too, I looked at a past exam and I couldn't figure out more than half of it.
