Hard to really say for sure.
Gut instinct would be Messi though...purely based on the way Barcelona are set up and Real Madrid's strikers.
Both score so many goals and occasionally carry the team....

Messi, Barcelona have nobody else who can play the false no.9 role anywhere near effectively, if Ronaldo was out for a few games they could easily fit someone else in.

Both are so important to their respected teams, and the stats prove how important they both are.
Ronaldo 138 goals in 136 games.
Messi 161 goals and 60 assists in his last 159 Barca games.
I would find it very hard to pick one after reading those stats.

Without Messi Barca will still pass teams to death and have Pedro, Villa, Fabregas and Sanchez to score goals. I think Madrid even with Ronaldo would have trouble beating them.Theo Filippo wrote:Messi, Barcelona have nobody else who can play the false no.9 role anywhere near effectively, if Ronaldo was out for a few games they could easily fit someone else in.

Messi is the most important player in the world bar none regardless of what team he's playing for. He's the best player in the world with the best attitude.

Pedro has been average this season, Villa is injured, Fabregas and Sanchez aren't goal machines, Messi doesn't have 23 assists or whatever for no reason his passing is massively underrated. Madrid still have Kaka, Ozil, Di Maria, Higuain, Benzema and even Callejon.Chris wrote:Without Messi Barca will still pass teams to death and have Pedro, Villa, Fabregas and Sanchez to score goals. The Spanish NT is virtually Barca without Messi. They are still the best team in the world but they didn't score goals at the World Cup the way Barca scores goals against everybody. It's because they lacked the cutting edge to their attack that Messi gives them. If Messi was Spanish, Spain would have scored a lot more goals and the final would have been a boat race.

Messi could have played for Spain, I think.

Nothing Mr. Aggresive.
I was adding to the point "if Messi was Spanish" - he could well have played for Spain, if he wasn't so loyal to Argentina.

ha
Probably could have. He should do at the next World Cup. Spain would win easily and Messi will have accomplished everything a football player possibly could. It would close the debate on who's the greatest ever.

I think Messi.
Ronaldo has saved Madrid plenty of times but other times he is the root to the problems they have, without him they'd probably need to change their system but they have a different type of players that Barcelona have. Barcelona would draw a lot without Messi.

Without Messi, Barcelona is Arsenal.
Arsenal are not multiple winners of the Champions League.

Nah, not quite. Arsenal has no equivalent of Xavi, Iniesta, Dani Alves or even Busquets.

Not srs.
I just always say that exact same comment every time the, "Would Barcelona be as amazing without Messi" topic gets brought up.
It's obvious the answer is Messi.
RM will just keep on buying for a solution.. buying players to score free kicks.. to score long range goals.. or to do fancy dribbling.
You can't buy a Messi.

Historically, no. This year, possibly. He's at least comparable. Arsenal has nobody comparable to Xavi, Iniesta or Alves.
But this is all moot now since N confirmed he wasn't serious.
