Most Brits I know who are knowledgeable on the subject, would say that if it weren't for the Americans joining the war, WWII would've lasted longer but the joint forces of Britain and Russia would've eventually over come the Germans without American intervention.

Not alot of it to be honest. Given their isolation, their history from the time of the vikings and saxons, to about Napoleon is generally uninteresting. Even the Hundred years war is so uninteresting from the English POV. I think starting from the Seven Year war onwards is when it gets interesting. I guess because England finally mattered for once? Dunno.
