The pros could learn something from this kid.The Coppa Italia Dilettanti may not be the most glamorous competition in Europe — it's contested by amateurs — but the tie between Torres and Unione Sportiva Termoli has thrown up an unusual guilt-induced last-minute penalty miss.
Leading the match 1-0 (3-2 on aggregate), Termoli was given a dubious 90th-minute penalty when Vittorio Esposito went down in the box without being touched. Having been undeservedly awarded a spot kick, Esposito's conscience got the better of him when he stepped up and made absolutely no attempt to put the ball in the net.Torres appreciated the sporting gesture, but in the manner of its Chelsea namesake's recent performances, temporary excitement was followed by pangs of disappointment when it was dumped out of the cup.

Fuck the opposition. You have to do everything it takes to go through in a cup.

I see they were winning. Would he have done it if they were the ones losing 3-2?

Was a cup match too? Was his manager in support of it?

Depends on the situation whether I'd do this tbh.

I keep reading this article and I must admit it is quite confusing. I think what happened here is when the penalty was taken this guy's team was in the lead but his actions shocked his teammates so much that they let one in after this and lost on away goals. Well after reading this about ten times that was my conclusion here.

I posted this in the Chat Thread yesterday. I was asking why he didn't just tell the referee that it wasn't a penalty. I'm sure the referee would have listened to him.

He probably did not want to chance getting a yellow card for dissent.

I doubt that would count as dissent.

I think I have the serious answer here, this is amateur tournament so perhaps he has been taught that only the captain should speak to the ref.
