Ah well, optimism is always a nice thing to have. You hardly look at the premiership and go "hmm, we've spent 100M and we have "the king" back. Yeah, we'll end up with 40 some points".
Uhm ok. What exactly do you think fanatics and extremists mean? I have a feeling you missunderstand the term.
Why don't you explain what you mean by it seeing you said it. There is nothing extreme about football fans who communicate via an internet forum.
A fanatic is someone who takes support far more seriously than your average fan. Those who see themselves as an extension of what they are a fan of. You do not necessarily need to be insane or disturbed to be a fanatic, not at all. Most if not all "ultras" are fanatics, yet most of them are perfectly sane people. A good example of a fanatic is someone who hears the club they support be criticized and instantly jumps to their defence regardless of the criticism simply because they see it as a personal attack. Of which there are quite a few on these forums. That goes for all single-issue forums, science-fiction shows, fantasy books, football clubs etc...
An extremist is someone who has views that the average fan would not share. Delusion is a form of extremism, believing and not just "saying" that Liverpool have the best players in the world is extremist, because the average fan would not agree with it. They would say Liverpool have good players, but not the best in the world. Likewise saying Liverpool have the worst players in the world is extremist. It's simply taking an opinion and dragging it to the extreme.
Instead of believing Liverpool have good players, they have the best players. Instead of believing Liverpool have a slightly weak playing squad, it has the weakest. These are both views that are "extreme".
