Nah, you can't have been playing football longer than pretty much everyone else and not become good at it. The work ethic is there for the most part. A lot of hardworking players, I mean a lot, like some that probably wouldn't be footballers if they didn't work so hard, and the talent is obviously there too, you've had guys like Matthews, Gazza, Le Tissier, McManaman, Cole, Rooney ect. but you can't help but feel that the athlete takes precedence over talented footballers in England.kyro7 wrote:England are shit at everything, our youth would still be shit.Ché Guayaba wrote:Not many English managers in English leuage(well technically not English but whatever) = English managers aren't very good.
That's not a good thing. If they aren't very good at the highest level that means they aren't very good in the lower level either. That probably affects a young player's development.
I don't know maybe I'm think about this too much but a lot of the National Teams on that list are pretty good. Not that England isn't good but you know.
I think it's the same problem the US faces a lot of times. You might have the next Messi on your hands but because he's 5'5 he might get overlooked in favor of the next, I don't know Kevin Davies or something.
I always think about Paco Torres, a Mexican American that started his career in Mexico and plays internationally for the US. He's a good player, but Mexico has loads of players that can play his role, the US on the other hand lacks that type of player, and even though Torres hasn't been the solution to this I feel that's the type of player they need.
I think they are heading in the right direction right now though, you see guys like Luis Gil in Youth Teams nowadays, talented footballers good with the ball at their feet.
Ironically Mexico right now seems to be going the opposite route, the recent U-20 side that got third place at the World Cup has a lot of 6' + players in it, it's the tallest squad I've ever seen Mexico play.
Usually tall kids end up playing Baseball.

Regarding commentators argument... Polish commentators are not that bright either aside from a few I like. I much much prefer watching games with no commentary and the fan's volume to normal volume rather than muted. Best thing football has to offer.
