While I felt sad after the Harry Potter came to a close, I felt more saddened by the LOTR because the films directly continued on from each other whereas the Harry Potter series generally had different plots with each film. So there's less commitment to the overhanging story arch.

If I might interrupt, I must say that the series was a decent idea, but the writing was incredibly average.
