Finally saw that film that caused those riots in the 70's.(Walking Proud 1979) I can see how a film that portrays a Mexican gang member(played by a White man of course) who decides to turn his back on his "brothers" and culture for the sake of a White girl might offend someone who lived and experienced the Chicano Movement of the 1970's.
Nowadays it's just a decent old movie, with some over the top acting. Still, things haven't changed THAT much since this film was released so the plot isn't that dated, and minus the whole stereotypical " cute little White lady who came to save us from ourselves" thing it wasn't half bad if you enjoy old films(like I do) Still it's kinda funny to know that the whole "Strong White guy" or "Cute little White girl" showing up to positively change the lives of some "poor stupid colored folk" premise was used back then too.
