    July 2011:

New Liverpool manager Josh Grunners has made his first signing of the season by confirming that free-agent John Smith has signed a 5yr contract with the club. The Goalkeeper had this to say "Liverpool is one of the greatest clubs in the footballing world and it is an honour to represent the club" When questioned about any future signings the manager refused to comment. It was a case of "one in one out" for Liverpool as goalkeeper Alan Hansen has moved to Macclesfield in order to get more first team football.

In related news the manager has recalled Alberto Aquilani from his loan at A.C Milan as well as Joe Cole from French champions Lille also returning to the club is the young forward Dani Pacheco from his loan spell at Spanish outfit Rayo Vallecano.

    Liverpool 2 v 2 Sevilla

The match was very even at the start with both sides creating a number of good chances but It was Liverpool who dreew first blood after Carroll played a through ball to Suarez putting him in a 1v1 situation with the Keeper, Suarez managed to keep the ball low into the corner where Palop couldn't get to it. Negredo equalised for Sevilla just after the hour mark with a fine header from a Jesus Navas cross, Liverpool new boy Smith couldn't get a hand to it. in the 80th minute with the game looking like it was heading for a draw Suarez again pulled a magnificent run out of the bag taking the ball past two Sevilla defenders to blast it past Palop. Sevilla didn't give up however and heavily attacked Liverpool for the remainder of the match Trochowski shot from 25 yards out to give the away side a well deserved equaliser.

    MOTM: Luis Suarez

Liverpool have today confirmed the sale of midfielder student Downing to Tottenham. The Spurs made a bid of £15m which was accepted by the club. Tottenham will be hoping the player can help them finish in the top 4 this season so the club can make a return to the Champions League. As well as this defender Jon Flanagan will be moving to Championship club Ipswich Town for a fee rumoured to be £1.5m the player had this to say "Liverpool has been a great club to me and I will always be grateful of what the club has given me in terms of training but I think that the opportunity to have more playing time in a competitive league will help my career.

    Liverpool 3 v 3 Racing Santander

Suarez opened the Scoring for Liverpool with a strike after just 3 minutes, Santander hadn't even had a touch of the ball at that point due to some brilliant passing by the Liverpool players. Liverpool's lead was short lived however as the Spanish team equalised just 10 minutes later thanks to a header from Stuani from a corner kick. Just after the 30 minute mark Liverpool full back Skrtel made an awful challenge on Santander captain Munitis which resulted in a penalty being given to the home team Stuani stepped up to make it 2-1. Liverpool came out at half time playing dreadful and just 5 minutes into the second half Nahuelpan widened the gap to 3-1 with a brilliant shot. Things looked to be getting worse for Liverpool as they conceded another penalty in the 70th minute this time Enrique was the culprit but the Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina denied Stuani from getting his hat-trick. With 10 minutes to go Santander had a corner-kick but the ball was intercepted by Kop favourite Jamie Carragher who cleared it up field to Dani Pacheco Santander had been caught out with all their men up front and Pacheco began to run towards to goal with the ball whilst Suarez was making a brilliant run off his own off the ball Pacheco played the ball to him and Suarez shot and scored off his first touch. Liverpool continued their onslaught on the Santander goal and eventually Dani Pacheco found enough space to pull of a shot from the edge of the box which curled past Goalkeeper Tono making it 3-3 with less than 2 minutes to go.

    MOTM: Luis Suarez

Liverpool defender Danny Wilson has left the club for SPL giants Celtic for a fee of £2.5m. "Moving to Celtic gives me a chance to play in the Champions League and test myself against the very best, Which is what every player dreams off" he said.

In related news Suarez will miss Liverpool's next friendly against the German side Borussia Mönchengladbach due to a knock he picked up in the 3-3 draw against Racing Santander. Liverpool fans do not need to worry though as the manager has assured them he will be 100% fit for the seasons opener at home to Sunderland.
