NICOLAS ANELKA and Alex have been banished from first-team training by Andre Villas-Boas.
The duo are no longer in the Chelsea manager's plans and it is understood Brazilian centre-back Alex has put in a transfer request.
Anelka is expected to head to Russia in January and join Anzi Machakala.
But the rest of the Chelsea squad have been shocked at the manner in which the popular pair have been cast aside.
Both are now training with the reserves.

Alex is a fantastic player. Much better than Luiz.

Great management by AVB
Wonder how much time he's left.

Luiz has 10 bad games, first team.

Both of them are still decent, seems a waste to have them with the reserves.

I'd take them both at Liverpool. Good back up.

I'd have Anelka starting at Liverpool. Beast of a player when he's on form him.

I'd take Anelka and Alex at Tottenham, Alex & King.

Was this really any surprise to anyone?
It's hilarious how people say our squad is too old, try and get rid of old players, and then we get criticized.
Plus it was clear Anelka and Alex weren't here to stay, if this is a surprise to you, you should pay more attention.

Fair enough get rid of them, but might as well keep them on the bench while they're still around.

It's not that their old, and in the case of Alex especially, he's better than the starter of Luiz IMO.

The problem isn't that you have too many old players though, the problem is that you don't have enough good young players.

People saying Alex is good are right BUT he doesn't fit into the system. He's slow, nt exactly brilliant on the ball either. Anelka on the other hand is good but work rate of a hippo.

Sounds like a perfect replacement for John Terry.

Why replace terry with someone similar?
