Shamrock Rovers celebrate the 2011 Irish Premier League title after their 2-1 win against UCD
Shamrock Rovers FC retained the Irish Premier Division title with a game to spare after a dramatic 2-1 win on the penultimate day of the season.
The Hoops, Ireland's reigning champions, went into the penultimate game of the season at University College Dublin AFC knowing that a win would ensure them the title from second-placed Sligo Rovers FC. As the game moved into added time, with the scores tied at 1-1, it seemed as if Rovers would keep their supporters on edge until the very last day of the season. However, with the clock moving into the 94th minute, Dean Kelly sparked frenzied celebrations, connecting with Stephen O'Donnell's effort to score the title-clinching goal.Earlier substitute Ken Oman had put ten-man Rovers ahead midway through the second half but UCD had equalised just a minute later through Robert Benson to keep Shamrock sweating until the dying moments. Manager Michael O'Neill praised his players for the success. "It's a marvellous achievement and the players deserve immense credit," he said. "They have been superb all season and they deserve this."

Fairly similiar I would say, most league 2 teams would beat the Irish league ones.
Irish teams are only semi-professional and train just 3times a week though.

Nope, they did their club very proud that night. Sung their hearts out throughout the game and never stopped. As far as I know there was no trouble before, during, or after the game. Shamrock Rovers should be proud of their fans.

Oh. League Two teams are fully professional, so I would expect them to be well fit compared to the Irish teams, that would be the difference in class there.VivaRonaldo wrote:polska. wrote:What is actually the better league? English Conference or Irish Premier?
