Globalisation in football Empty Globalisation in football

Post by Guest Tue Oct 18, 2011 4:05 am

My friends, for my Media Studies coursework I have to do an investigation. I have chosen the topic of globalisation, and will be linking this with football as it is a topic in which I would feel comfortable and confident with.

This topic can also be linked to the postmodernism aspects of our game, aswell as media institutions which have had a massive impact, such as Sky.

What I am asking of you, is for your thoughts on these topics. As part of my research I have to find 5 sources in which I can use information from, and a forum is an option, so I might aswell take advantage of this glorious forum here and it's highly intelligent members.

A little bit of extra help which could also be useful, if you happen to find any good articles online which are related to my topics, would you mind posting the links to them here please so I can have a read. It would be much appreciated. Also, if you happen to know of any books that are about postmodernism in football and globalisation etc, then please let me know so I can read about them and possibly buy them.

Ps. As a little bit more extra, if you find anything decent about the moral panics over hooliganism (Heysel 1985 being a good example it seems), can you let me know about that too. I've got until Friday to decide on a title and find 5 sources, and moral panics over hooliganism was another topic I was thinking about incase I changed my mind.

You could write about the globalization of the sport and how marketing affected it (i.e. TV rights, sponsors, etc.).

There is a lot about Skys involvement in football and how it changed for the better/worse.

The Guardian seem to have quite a bit on the topic, which should help.

I had to do this for a Uni essay, i mentioned how stadiums get rebranded like The Reebok Stadium etc in order for companies to promote their product worldwide.

I also mentioned how owners (like Birminghams Carson Yeung) buy clubs to help raise football in their country (China in this case).
