Great Britain is composed of more than one nation, three of which also have languages that are not English.

At the rate it's being taught, the highest achieving students will only know basic (if any) Welsh unless they decide to take the language further.

The only reason for it rising is because more parents are sending their kids to Welsh speaking schools and faith schools because the public schools are so shit.

They are. But at primary school level, it's once a week and the majority of students don't achieve more than a few basic sentences by the time they progress to secondary. The curriculum is being changed, but there won't be significant improvement for a few years yet.

I believe you can drop it at GCSE level, which is about 14 I think.

Not a chance. There's not enough time in the day. If anything should be given more time it should be PE, which is also once a week, rather than Welsh.

It should be, but you've also got to fit in English, Maths, Science as the three core subjects. As well as RE, History, Geography, ICT, Art, Music, PE, Welsh, ESDGC. Into a four subject a day slot. English and Maths must be taught everyday, while kids up to the age of around 8 have to do have a phonics lesson at least twice a week at the absolute minimum. The schedule is so jam-packed right now it would be impossible to add an extra lesson in somewhere.

May I ask what RE, ICT, Phonics, and ESDGC are?
