I don't think it's a good reason either. Arsenal should pay for all the changes she will have to make by losing the court case.Zzonked wrote:Mutant123 wrote:It's more the other way around. But despite the apparent ridiculousness of their case, Arsenal have now
successfully persuaded the Spanish authorities that there was a "risk of
confusion" between the monolithic English football club and the tiny
hat shop.
Didn't you read the post? Clearly says.
I confess that I didn't, but that still isn't an acceptable reason to care. Do they think people are going to go into the Arsenal club shop and ask for hats?
So people go in her shop trying to buy shirts? It's not exactly like she's got their badge on hats. It's just not a good reason.

It doesn't work like that.
She could also be accused of using the name to promote/increase attraction to her store. The name is directly attributed to Arsenal football club, if they have that name protected, nobody else can use it without permission.

Oh my god did she actually do thatResurrectionRooney wrote:This is almost as bad as when Victoria Beckham tried to sue Peterborough for calling themselves Posh.
Anyway not quite sure if it was morally right for us to do this. But then again the only reason she probably named her shop that was to gain publicity of Arsenals name. Kinda shady by both parties. Arsenal don't own the patent for the business name "Arsenal" either.

There's something fishy about this.
How would Arsenal even know about a tiny shop in Seville. I reckon she reported herself to Arsenal for the publicity of the lawsuit.
I mean, I read an article the other day that people in China have opened stores that are called Apple stores or whatever Apple call them, and they're completely unlicensed. They get the employees to dress up like Apple employees and everything. They've been making cash from Apple's name, and they're getting away with it (for now).
If Apple (whose main interest is retail) haven't spotted an unlicensed shop which is IDENTICAL to there's, but illegal. How/why would Arsenal go after a shop which has fuck all to do with football and isn't even spelled the same way.
Definitely something dodgy.

Well she obviously did it for publicity. Come on who the fuck would name their company Arsenal if there wasn't a famous club called that .CollieBuddz wrote:There's something fishy about this.

"Arsenal" is a shit word in every human language.
I read that people were bribing landlords in China so they look legit legally regarding those fake Apple stores.

She hasn't called her company Arsenal, she called it Arsenale. It's not pronounced Arsenal either. She named it that because it ties in with the location of the shop.grenade187 wrote:Well she obviously did it for publicity. This is taken from the article:
Simon named her shop after the Italian word 'arsenale', which was the
name given to the shipbuilders' yards in medieval Pisa and Venice. Her
premises are in Seville's Arenal de Sevilla district, where Seville's
ancient shipyards were located - hence her choice of the name.
I doesn't look like she intended it to resemble anything to do with Arsenal. You also must be an imbecile to go into a hat shop mistaking it for anything to with Arsenal.

Doesn't this really invalidate the thread? Or at least the title? RR was being quite pedantic about a title a couple days ago, so why should this be different?Dan wrote:They beat Udinese.

It does indeed. RR is wrong again, it is becoming increasingly frequent.
