    Russia v Ireland | Euro 2012 Qualifier 22px-Flag_of_Russia.svg Russia v Ireland | Euro 2012 Qualifier 22px-Flag_of_Ireland.svg

    Ireland's starting line-up:

    Given

    Kelly - Dunne - O'Dea - Ward

    Duff - Andrews - Whelan - McGeady

    Keane - Doyle

A win would be great, a draw bearable but a loss and our chances of qualifying would be slim.

No he's not. A first half dominated by the Russians, Given's made 3 great saves and Dunne excellently cleared a ball off the line. Let's hope for a much better second half.

That match made me feel like Jodie Foster in The Accused. We got ripped apart so many times, it's unbelievable we came away with a draw.

Ireland played relatively well and got a good draw, but I think they should have gone all out for the win, as that was what they really needed at the end of the day.

Handy indeed, we still have to go there though.

    Whats the group like?

    Russia 17
    Ireland 15
    Slovakia 14
    Armenia 14

    As it stands iirc?

Correct. Russia still have to play Slovakia away and Slovakia has already beat Russia in Russia. Slovakia will have to beat Russia to have a chance so hopefully they can.

If we want to qualify we have to beat Armenia at home and Andorra away. If we can't do that then we don't deserve to qualify.

If only he went for it against Slovakia, they were there for the taking.

Does 2nd place qualify automatically or a play-off?

You may get neither. Play-off if you have the right amount of points.

    I was wrong

The qualifying round is made up of nine groups of five or six teams, who contest home and away fixtures. The section winners and runners-up with the best record against the top five in their group progress automatically. The remaining eight second-placed sides contest two-legged play-offs, with the victors joining the hosts to complete the lineup for the final tournament.

    Taken from the official site.

The best runner up gets automatic qualification, if we win our last two games we would have a good chance of getting that place as we would have 21 points. Otherwise if we don't it's play offs.

But we can still win the group if Slovakia get there act together and beat Russia as we know they can.
