Mertesacker is a good player, reckon you got good value for money too.

He's fucking slow though

Not as slow as people make out. But, yes he is quite slow.

He's the size of a house, he's never gonna be fast.

(The only exception to this rule is Usain Bolt who's 6'5.)

That's your only problem with Mertesacker, especially when Arsenal play a high line. He'll be a decent signing though, something you need and he's a beast in the air.

Anything is better than Squillaci.

Alongside Koscielny who is pretty quick could make for a good partnership though.

Obviously against teams like Stoke Arsenal will play Mertesacker + Vermaelen, but against the bigger teams with the smarter forwards, i'd go with Koscielny and Mertesacker simply cos Mertesacker is better than Vermaelen and Koscielny is an awesome covering defender. The man can read stuff like a boss. He's just not brilliant in the air.

Read someone on another forum say Werder Bremen played a high line at times and he coped fine with it.
