£3m for a 35 year old goalkeeper that has palyed 13 games in 3 years? Even before that at Celta he played 181 games in 10 years, 18.1 games a year...

That's the biggest rip off there.



What I think has happened here is they are taking ages into account. Although it's probably wrong, i'm not sure anyone would pay alot for the likes of Xavi because he's at the age that players tend to start picking up them niggles and missing more games.

Gareth Barry has to be one of the worst ones there. I wouldn't pay anything over £10m for him. How can his value be higher than that of Xavi? Both are similar ages, but Xavi is 100X the player Barry could dream of being.

Player price comparisons are generally pointless anyway. So many things affect a price: the time left on the contract, the selling club, the buying club, time in the transfer window, and many other factors can change the price completely.

Its actually pretty shallow and pointless to compare players like that. Man City is a team that has overpriced a lot of players since they have the money to blow, so that should automatically make such a comparison null.

Also that the home grown rule their value is worth more to English clubs

It would be embarrassing for them anyway if the 'statistics' were to mean anything. They would have a squad that is more valuable than Barcelona, but they are still miles off them. Obviously, these stats are completely wrong though.

Man City do have a lot more depth in their squad than Barcelona do, but I'd still much rather have Barcelona's squad, even if it is a little thin.

Well i'm pretty sure what Redknapp was getting at was that they have a bigger squad in terms of numbers and have more quality in reserve, which is true.

I don't think it matters at all, because Barca still have enough depth to cover them for a season to win everything, but if in some massive coincidence that both City and Barca played each other in the CL, and like 15 first team players got food poisoning, City would be able to cope better. Not really going to happen but yeah
